Lauren L (kr) wrote: Terribly stupid film. I love needless horror and gore, but stupidity in a horror film is so very annoying. Leaving your pregnant wife alone in a dangerous situation or leaving your vehicle on a deserted island? C'mon, it's almost offensive to think that some would find silly decisions scary. It just comes off stupid. And FTR, I think I could beat the shit out of a slew of kids. Just sayin'. -___-

The idea of a relationship that develops unexpectedly between a museum guard and an accidental tourist also appealed to me. Instead, it was like watching water boil. The little short by Jem Cohen before the movie was a forewarning. There was not detail he thought too small or irrelevant. Visions of Gowanus and stray cats set to music reminded me of navel staring when you're high on grass. The movie itself was just a much longer version of that exercise in self-indulgence. There were lovely bits of acting and dialogue that painted the character of the protagonists. But they were strung out with so much in between that it was difficult to sustain any storyteling arc. Too bad.

Byron B (ca) wrote: A bit like a reverse Benjamin Button. David Bennent is the extremely quirky Oskar, who chooses not to grow up, obsesses over his drum, and observes the madness of war. The story starts with Oskar's grandmother and traces the politics of racial and national divides in Europe from World War I to World War II. Oskar's mother loves two men. This could be symbolic, if you dig deep enough. Oskar meets some little people performing in a circus. Though the actor was 11 when playing the role, eventually Oskar enters his 20s and pursues romance and a career as an entertainer for the German army. It is a strange tale on the surface, but deals with serious issues.

Ashley H (kr) wrote: Conspirator has a lot of realism in this film. It is about an American girl who fell in love a British soldier who was a Soviet Union spy. Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor (no relation to Robert Taylor) give exceptional performances. The screenplay is well written. Victor Saville did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed this motion picture because of the thrills and drama. Conspirator is a must see.
