(kr) wrote: Illogical, truncated mess of a movie, subpar effects, Gene Hackman returned for what?, to collect a paycheck, watching Laci fly through the space with Nuclear Man without any protective gear tells you all you need to know about this movie. So much talent wasted in this movie. Shouldn't have been greenlighted. Absolutely abysmal.
(it) wrote: When a young girl is kidnapped by a group of killers the hostage transactions don't go as planned and bad things start to happen. Somewhat suspenseful but overly drawnout due to the fact that all of the action doesn't happen until the last few minutes. Worth a look for the fans of eurotrash and cult films.

(ca) wrote: This is definitely a weird movie not just its plot but what it tends to focus on the effects are okay the acting is fine just overall it becomes to generic and it really drags on to the point where you just don't care anymore overall I wouldn't really recommend it doesn't have unintentional funny moments in it to So it just a little better than a bad movie

It's as if the film was made to capture forever what is meant by the term "movie star." The opening sequence and Doctor bookends help give it that timeless polish that means it will always work and always ring true. One liners just don't get much more memorable. I also can't recall another Hollywood ensemble picture that clicks on all cylinders from this era. I can imagine this being one of the pictures that provided Altman with a blueprint of what is possible, even if Renoir's Rules of the Game was his primary template. Grand Hotel was created seven years earlier and has charms and virtues of its own in abundance.
