(gb) wrote: Bad stuff, should be avoided. Its sad that, mainstream punjabi cinema is also heading in the wrong direction, just like punjabi music. Things have started to fall apart from the beginning only, may God save our youth. This type of sad excuse for entertainment and cinema can cripple the young minds. ABOUT THE MOVIE: Cinematography is good, but that's all. Director tried to outdo his capability but failed miserably at his sad attempt. Acting was poor. Story was bland and the classic 'Sahiba-Mirza' folklore was reduced to some mediocre farce. Random action scenes, slow motions, a lot of mustang driving, plot-holes, just all the contents of a typical bad Hollywood movie, just got worse.

(au) wrote: Restrepoavoids political discussion. The documentary just shows the heroism of impossibly young, brave soldiers who follow orders that at times seem pointless because following them is what their country has asked them to do. At the end of the film, when we once again see brief footage of the doomed Restrepo, on his way to Afghanistan and surrounded by men we've come to know and admire tremendously, this war has rarely felt so tragic or ill-conceived.

E ainda que seja difcil adaptar-se ao ritmo mais lento do filme, a conciliao mpar entre narrativa e documentrio justifica a experincia.

(gb) wrote: A contemporary classic of unflinching whistles just like the forest of transformations in the second half of the film. Apichatpong curiously observes the inhabitants of his tale but without intervening in their timid reactions and for what it's worth, an oh-so-dear flirt between the men of our story. Shamanic myths and the jungle's hedonistic junction, Tropical Malady captures an almost religious howl and defies the cinematic rules like so many films did before it, only it gets more visible in recent years.

(ag) wrote: Feels like Miike paying tribute to Tarkovsky, balancing a multitude of themes and shadows of symbols without offering cut & dry answers, and embracing nature with long, meditative shots. Flawed but very humanistic and subtle, which is even something you'll find at the heart of Miike's most violent films.

I know it's a werid thing to fixate on, but since he's our main voice of the film it was damned distracting and I kept hoping he'd lay off but it never happened. An insurance man falls into a scam with a femme fatale to bump off her husband, with the entire film shown as a flashback to the action as MacMurray narrates, it is definitely the mold from which most films of this genre spring, and was well worth tracking down.Hell, it must be noted that I even ended up re-watching this one within a few short months, and catching a theatrical presentation put on by TCM: it's THAT good.Recommended.
