The Toybox

The Toybox

It all began so innocently for two children growing up in the deepest countryside, their imaginations set ablaze by a book on local myths and legends. Berenice convinces her younger brother Brian that she is the reincarnation of a witch with the powers to put everything right. As they grow up Brian becomes emotionally dependent on his sister, so that when she returns to the family home for Christmas with her new boyfriend he feels totally betrayed. At the same time a man strongly resembling the mythical Jake the Mid-Folker is closing in. An overwhelming sense of impending horror surrounds the house, but is the enemy outside - or is the enemy within?

Kevin M (it) wrote: Ignore all negative reviews! I started watching this movie thinking I wasn't going to like it, based on the negative reviews it got. But, once the pace and plot picked up, it actually turned out to be a fun and witty movie. Granted it's far from perfect, but Katherine Heigl fit right into the role of Stephanie Plum.

Sarfara A (es) wrote: I always feel honored to come from a city 'LARKANA (SINDH)' that gave courageous leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan. As in the documentary it is shown how much people are crazy about Bhutto family, I must also disclose here that I am one of those people who adore Bhutto family, living in same city, they lived. " Bhutto is a documentary about great personalities of Bhutto family in general and Benazir Bhutto in particular. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto 1928-1979 came from my hometown Larkana (Sindh). He was educated at Barkley University and Oxford University, his vocal power, intellectual, wits, wisdom and charismatic personality had made him the most popular and beloved leader in Pakistan history. Z.A. Bhutto was murdered by the upper machines, for his rising status as global leader, courageous steps, like asking Arab nations to use oil as weapon against the West for Palestinian issue; to ask them (Arabs) to withdraw their bank accounts from U.S. and European banks to be deposited a new bank to be built in Pakistan or UAE (Arab countries do not receive interest on their balance in banks, because Islam has forbidden taking interest). Lastly a move that Z.A. Bhutto pressed hard to acquiring Nuclear weapons. He was overthrown in a military coup led by General Zia Ul Haq, and later executed. Benazir Bhutto the eldest child of Z.A. Bhutto came on stage to lead her father's party PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party), seeking just and democratic ways to fight dictatorship; she was put under house-arrest for years, suffered tortures, her two younger brothers were killed Shahnawaz Bhutto was poisoned in his residence in France, and Murtaza was murdered in Karachi. She became the youngest Prime Minister of Pakistan at the age of 36-37, and the first Muslim woman to lead a modern state Pakistan. She was elected twice the premier of Pakistan, and twice her government was toppled. After going into self-exile between London and Dubai, she was approached by former dictator Pres: Gen: Musharraf, and the United States to go back to Pakistan and lead the country under turmoil. Although she was pre-informed about threats to her life, she would always say that her country needed her, her people needed and she needed to be in Pakistan to save Pakistan from extremism " A remarkable documentary that chronicles timeline about Pakistan history. It offers everything and does go unbiased. A must watch documentary for those who see Pakistan differently (mostly negatively).

Matt B (nl) wrote: As a film concerned only with it's subjects this work succeeds - an artful, touching account of violence, consequences and mulling-over of the philosophy therein. However, I feel as a social commentary, or the 'critique of masculinity' that the blurb expouses, it fails. It deals too much with the polar extremes of violence and passivity, and not enough with the bold-faced positives of masculinity such as creating positive firm boundaries, and being able to defend oneself without succumbing entirely to anger and aggression. The social chord seems to be saying that 'either you fight back and become an aggressor yourself, or you are passive, or you are a woman and you suffer the effects of masculinity'. Nothing could be more 2-dimensional or further from the truth. And in a world where woman are, by and large, attracted to dominant, powerful men, it comes across as a little futile.

Jennifer P (us) wrote: Beginning was good and had potential. There were some scenes that I thougth this movie could have been really good. Reminded me of a Japanese horror knock-off. By the time you get to the end, the plot gets weird and stupid and not scary at all.
