Bob V (fr) wrote: Oh boy, Bette Davis really puts the Cunt in Bitch here... Icily played, Davis nabbed herself another Oscar nomination and was ranked as the #43 Greatest Villain of All Time by the American Film Institute. She herself found the part so demanding, and her acrimonious working relationship with director Wyler so upsetting, that she actively lobbied to get the secondary part of a nice normal young woman in "The Man who came to Dinner" as her next project. Sorry it took it out of her, but definitely worth it from where I'm standing! This film also marks the d (C)but - and immediate first Oscar nomination - of soon-to-be the Biggest New Thing in Hollywood Teresa Wright, who plays Davis' daughter and she does a magnificent job portraying the evolution from timid, hesitant girl to determined young woman. One more acting achievement I'd like to single out, is that of Patricia Collinge who reprised the role she created on Broadway. Her performance is heart-wrenching, and if you get to the end without feeling at least a slight pang of pity for her character, you probably kick puppies.

Decent only the PPD seems far-fetched & unsupportive enough bringing forth the story afterwards. Carice van Houten is wonderful as always although sounds habitually forceful sometimes.

That aside the film was entertaining and provided a ray of light into the franchise.

MF J (fr) wrote: This is a classic film from the land down under and one of the coolest flick form the 80's. As a kid I watched it with my dad and we loved it. Paul Hogan has created a character that has gained worldwide popularity and belongs today in the pantheon of the most iconic characters to ever grace the silver screen. A good film.

Leonard D (kr) wrote: This was meh, stick to the Claude Rains classic! It's more worth your time than this downer! Elizabeth Shue went from smart to obnoxious in this role with "You wanna be God? I'll show you God!" Oh please honey! You couldn't have tried to be any more corny with that line delivery!? Sign....The Invisible Man from 1932 is timeless compared to Hollow Man!
