Dominique Marceau is on trial for the murder of Gilbert Tellier. The counsels duel relentlessly, elaborating explanations for why the pretty, idle and fickle girl killed the talented and ambitious conductor freshly graduated from the conservatory. Was it passion, vengeance, desperation, an accident? The acquaintances of Gilbert testify, as well as Dominique's former lovers, and her sister, Annie, the studious violin player engaged to Gilbert. No one seemed to be interested, but I gave it a shot.It was manipulative in using the big issue to get you interested and the small stories to get across sentimental points about illegal immigration. However, the stories were usually exceptions to the rule and distracted from the point. It was also simply made, and seemed to focus a lot on the director and his narrative. Regardless, the issue is very important and complicated. It does manage to cover both sides, sadly not always fairly. It did make me curious about Lynch's original film and why it was a success.

Steven C (br) wrote: Excellent thriller, well written by Aaron Sorkin, and competently directed by Harold Becker. Quite the all star cast. Nicole is a little shaky to start with, but really comes to life towards the end. Look out for a bit part by a very young Gweneth Paltrow 'I am God!!'.
Adam B (us) wrote: This abysmal sequel to the sometimes funny original is like the hangover after a party, as Moore and Minelli seem more interested in complainging than being funny, like a married couple that doesn't want to be married anymore. Yawn.
