The Tumbler

The Tumbler

Two men, lost in the Australian desert, or are they? Hurtle, a tough Aussie bloke and ex-con, and Tahir, a soft-spoken, Afghani-Australian, are near death as they stumble across Jen, a headstrong American soldier stationed alone on a remote military base. In good faith, and against regulations, Jen offers to help Tahir and Hurtle. But when Tahir drops a GPS Unit from his pocket, it becomes clear that they're not lost, they're exactly where they planned to be.

Kerrie C (ag) wrote: Made me jump in several places, badly enough to spill the popcorn everywhere! Not brilliant but worth a watch to pass a bit of time!

Johanne G (de) wrote: It was good but the ending was terrible.

Paul D (de) wrote: The story and plot move at a snail's pace. Saoirse Ronan gives a decent performance, but it is difficult to find reasons to like her character. This is nothing to get excited about.

Clove C (es) wrote: I do want to see it but it will come out in 2013 in USA

Michael K (kr) wrote: This second effort I've seen from Jia, shares similar themes to Still Life's people tales and the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. Using people's tales some real, some fictitious, Jia reflects on the transformation of a munitions factory, in Chengdu, that served the Chinese military during wars in Korea and Vietnam into a modern contemporary urban living complex. Parts of the film I really enjoyed, particularly the excellent cinematography which lifted the film out of its documentary like feel into an arthouse level. Where I wasn't sure if it worked was when switching between fact and fiction although I(TM)m sure that was thrown in to make a link between the fantasy and reality of communism.

Chris H (ag) wrote: only gets better upon multiple watches, not many comedies can say that.

Allan C (au) wrote: No Burt Reynolds or Sally Field leaves Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed to carry the load and it does't work out so well. I'm super curious to see the original version, "Smokey is the Bandit" where Gleason played both The Bandit and Sheriff Buford T. Justice.

Roger R (kr) wrote: Must be Fassbinder's greatest film - dubbed "Queer Hell" by a leading gay critic when it came out - again in honour of mardi gras week
