Krystal C (br) wrote: Make sure to watch the theatrical/DVD version of the film and not the version that ends with Sam Jackson in a cemetery. That terrible alternate ending ruins the whole movie.I love John Cusack, but don't love any of his movies - except this one. This type of haunting suspense from the perspective of the critical and relatable non-believer scares me the most. The scene at the window where he communicates with the shadow across the street is one of the scariest things I've ever seen! This movie is very underrated and one of the best movies made from a Stephen King story.
Grant S (us) wrote: The story of Ray Charles, music legend. Told in his adult live with flashbacks to his youth we see his humble origins in Florida, his turbulent childhood which included losing his brother and then his sight, his rise as pianist in a touring band, his writing his own songs and running his own band and then stardom. We also see his addiction to drugs and its affect on his working life and family life.Great biopic. Tells the Ray Charles story well and demonstrates his influence on musical history. Also shows his demons and how he overcame them.Quite emotional too: we see how, once he had lost his sight, his mother forced him to be self-reliant and how this paid off for him in later life.Superb performance by Jamie Foxx in the lead role. The movie could easily have been a standard blow-by-blow account of the Ray Charles story but Foxx inhabits his character and captures his mannerisms and personality very well. Even more impressive in that he is a sighted man, playing a blind man. Foxx deserved his Best Actor Oscar.

I'm glad that Toho figured out that it's hard to carry a movie on the strength of one monster that doesn't have a very interesting story.
Wayne D (mx) wrote: Arena's dearly missed Graveyard Shift horror hostess Tabitha (where are you baby!?) put it best in her introduction to this delight: (I paraphrase) Many thought Venus was an unforgiving space wilderness but who knew there was air you could breath and it was full of chicks!? Of course there's also Zsa Zsa as the Queen of Venus (or something, doesn't matter, darlink) which takes this sub-average space campery into orbit as she barks ze orderz at her mini-skirted minions. Bless.
