Jacob M (de) wrote: "Superman vs. The Elite" is a great little animated movie about the clash between the idealism of the past and the gritty reality of the Post-Modern world with Superman's refusal to kill unnecessarily being put to the test by the Elites, a group who believe might makes right and that killing evil is the only way to stop it. This is a movie that is very relevant to today and shows that, as Superman says, "Dreams save us" even, or perhaps especially, in the chaotic times we are living in now.

Tom H (fr) wrote: decent enough comedy. the scenes with John Cleese was by far the funniest in this film.

Richardson during WWII which after an unfortunate mishap while he was a commander of a sub losing a great percentage of his men, he then creates an obsession of the same Japanese war fleet he failed to destroy called the 'Flotilla 1' after going back to desk duty for a specific amount of time, he then requests for another go at being commander of another sub. And this time it happens to be out of by taking control over Lt. Jim Bledsoe (Burt Lancaster) place of the sub since he outranks him. After completing some successful missions, the commander then disobeys orders and orders the sub to go back to the very same area where he had failed which is to destroy the Akikaze war boat, and of course as a result of this creates some friction and hostility amongst the crew and it's Lts particularly the second in commander the Burt Lancaster character. If their is any reason to watch this, it'd be to see the acting veterans of Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster butting heads and a moderately great supporting cast, but the war situtations are unconvincing which has nothing to to with it's toy models but the way it's being set up since many torpedo scenes have been 'restricted' to shooting from the surface instead of shooting underwater, a couple of scenes of Japanese war planes shooting and dropping bombs from above without a direct hit, and a cheesy propaganda near final ending of "I rather fight to the death despite my delpleting health or my goal first before looking after my own health" kind of thing is to me pretentious and sending out the wrong message. (plot spoilers) And what's really stupid is that it was soon learned that it wasn't really the 'Akikaze' boat that sunk the Commanders sub at the begining but it was really another Japanese war submarine. Oh gee, that was surprising and unexpected. 2 out of 4
