The Vatican Tapes

The Vatican Tapes

In a highly secured vault deep within the walls of Vatican City, the Catholic Church holds thousands of old films and video footage documenting exorcisms/supposed exorcisms and other unexplained religious phenomena they feel the world is not ready to see. This is the first tape - Case 83-G - stolen from these archives and exposed to the public by an anonymous source.

The Vatican Tapes is in turn based on a story by Chris Morgan and Christopher Borrelli. After a young woman begins to express increasingly erratic and strange behaviors, her father and boyfriend, along with a priest and two Vatican exorcists, come to realize that she's been taken over by an ancient satanic force. . Heather M (mx) wrote: A fun movie with great dialogue and a strong cast. The greatest moment of this movie is the conversation between Dean Caudwell and Marcus and the subsequent (yet unrelated) hospitalization of the latter.

Thomas W (ru) wrote: Hoping that his Indian Ocean island nation of Sri Lanka might one day be another international motion picture hub, director Chandran Rutnam wanted to bring prestige to his pic by casting Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley as the film's central character -- a disillusioned "common man" who has become a terrorist in defiance of what his world is turning into. Kingsley's character plants five bombs throughout the streets of Colombo and alerts the authorities of the possible high-casualty disaster. Kingsley will call off his attack IF the Chief of Police (Ben Cross - Chariots of Fire) and the Sri Lankan government release four notorious criminals/terrorists and let them fly away to safety at a secret location. In order to ensure the police play the hand they are dealt, a novice reporter is tasked with reporting live to the residents of the city whenever the "common man" decides to let them in on some information. The reporter and the bomb squads trek all over the city as tension is supposed to build. While A Common Man has an interesting premise -- it was adapted from a Bollywood film called A Wednesday -- it is nearly impossible to enjoy unless the audience gets a glimpse of either Kingsley or Cross as the rest of the "acting" -- yes, I am putting it in quotation marks! -- is atrocious! There are no words to describe the lack of talent onscreen in A Common Man. While I do not recommend seeing the film for its story, I might have to tell people to try to make it through some of the movie to witness some of its sheer awfulness. It is too bad the actors weren't at least "common".

Brendan A (de) wrote: Slow-burning supernatural thriller about a couple who move to an isolated cottage in the country for a new beginning following the death of their son. However after strange goings on in the house they learn that their new dream home is haunted by the spirit of a witch who met a grisly end there and now wants revenge. After a slow start patient viewers will be rewarded with some effective scares and spooky atmospheric photography. This is a horror film which doesn't rely on blood and gore to get its scares so it's a good start for people who normally steer clear of the genre.

Julien B (au) wrote: Bonne epopee sur le peuple Kazakh. Mais une narration et des dialogues un peu disneysques. Dans le genre asie centrale, mater "Mongol", moins de paroles, plus d'actes.

Alaine B (it) wrote: Dry and dreary desert imagery and hooey. Setting is South Africa area. The dust devil kills people it deems want death and who have nothing to live for.

Jaime R (us) wrote: There's no other way to say it's one of my all-time favourite comedies.

Rodney E (au) wrote: Visual and sound gags galore in the more stuffier and French inspiration for Mr. Bean. Tati's M. Hulot bumbles upon a modern futuristic complex, which seems cooly dated, while tourists get in the way. I'm not going to front, Playtime is somewhat difficult to get through but the sound and visual design makes it entertaining and the set design and decoration is great.
