(br) wrote: These live action quasi-documentaries are always questionable. It does a very basic job with no backstory of showing some of the torture and murder. It takes place directly during the time and in the location of the torture and murders. Some of the scenes are dragged out. I think some are unnecessary. And the film for some reason got a lower violence rating than the R rating, it initially called. It's somewhat graphic, as this story is the precursor and the basis and inspiration for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. While very few elements carried over into the actual series, the original and real plot was a lot more simpler and realistic.

Combining documentary and fiction, writer/director Dvortsevoy creates an empathetic portrait of life on the Kazakh steppe. With a complex mixture of social critique, dramatic conflict, and comic release, Tulpan represents the best of contemporary cinema.
(br) wrote: Adequate documentary with a very unlikeable subject. The Rock School developed by Paul Green is a breeding ground for brainwashing and heavily bad influences. This was a pain to watch. The production was okay, but the teacher totally ruined it.

(br) wrote: In my opinion, Balto is one of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment's last great classically animated children's movies. This movie has a quite serious under tone with the plot loosely based on the events of the Nome blight of the 1920's. The plot has some witty and cute humor input from the Boris the goose and the other supporting characters like the stuttering husky. Very underrated film! Great voice acting cast including Kevin Bacon (Balto), Bob Hoskins (Boris the goose), and Jim Cummings (Steele the husky). There is a solid and intelligent enough plot that children and parents shouldn't become bored. The live action intro and ending has subtle references towards the characters may not be easy for the kids to spot, but definitely provides closure to the plot for and older audience (parents).
