Nilufer R (de) wrote: I don't know where I even hear about these movies which I immediately regret after watching. It could vey well be a family drama but some scenes were oh so terrible, like it was directed by a high school kid or something. Acting wasn't all that disturbing but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know.

Peter H (us) wrote: The subtext of this film eluded me. What started out as an interesting portrait of an author confronting his mortality became somewhat muddled with doomed romance. I never liked the character of Heather. It seemed like she tried too hard to be cute and likable, and I certainly could not approve of her obsession with an old writer. Even so, I was bewildered at the end when he slapped her. The other plot involving his daughter and her boyfriend was more endearing, but the character I really wanted to like was Schiller. Langella's performance knocked it out of the house, but the story, while it did contain many interesting tidbits, wasn't enough for me.
Ethan Y (de) wrote: An emotional and intimate documentary on the man behind the bowler and cane. It's great to see so many influential figures in cinema come together and talk about how Chaplin has influenced them. Woody Allen's kind of a dick though.
Richard C (ag) wrote: Aside from a memorable and frosty role by Kaori Tsuji and the fact that it helps one learn Japanese, this remains a pretty trite and unconvincing picture. The main flaw here is the main actress, who, whilst speaking impeccable Japanese, seems not to have grasped the essence of the culture and the work ethic at play over there.

Kane L (ag) wrote: pleasantly surprised by this film, despite its ridiculous story. Entertaining old school 80's vampire movie, and overall just dumb fun.
Marc R (br) wrote: This movie conjures such a precise time and place you can smell it, and it's intoxicating. Impossibly cool and cynical dialogue that both sings and bruises, melded to pitch-perfect performances and a rich, sweet and sour evocation of '50s Manhattan that's both venal and hypnotic. A brilliant film with maybe no equals of its kind.
Eric J (nl) wrote: Ran a bit long but enjoyable. The obvious inspiration for "Young Frankenstein" which it is quite similar to. If you've seen that film before this one, it may strike you as unintentionally humorous and/or campy.
