As a film, "A Dangerous Method" succeeds as being provoking and engrossing, but feels somewhat incomplete...

To say more would ruin the surprise, just let it be said that you should brace yourself for one of the strangest movies to come out of Japan (even weirder than the director's debut, the equally insane Big Man Japan). Funny and deep.

Russell F (br) wrote: Factory Girl is the biographical and truncated story of 'Warhol Superstar' Edie Sedgwick, whose fleeting moment in the reflected glare of Andy Warhol's media glory became the prototype for today's celebrity culture. The film itself is a perfect depiction of world of art and fashion within the sixties and a truthful insight into the life and scenes of Edie and the factory days. This is a film that accentuates the beauty and the ugliness in human art. Factory Girl captures the shallow, transient and utterly facile world of Warhol in the sixties and in another way it sums up the emptiness and tragedy of the Hollywood dream machine too. However, Factory Girl doesn't ask any deep questions nor does it pretend to be something it's not. It's entertaining and worth watching for two very good performances. Sienna Miller does a wonderful job as the fated Edie Sedgwick; a beautiful girl valued only for her beauty and quirks while, Guy Pearce beautifully and harshly portrays vapid pop culture icon, Andy Warhol. This is a beautiful crafted film that is itself a piece of art and an underrated expos of pop culture. You're the boss, applesauce.

Movie M (us) wrote: Most people think playing the piano is tough, but just wait till you see how much of a toll it takes on even some of the more skilled artists of the instrument. This biopic from the Australian "down under" depicts the life and challenges of David Helfgott (portrayed by Geoffrey Rush), a child prodigy at the piano who rose the ranks only to suffer a mental break due to the stresses of his craft. We watch from his early life and the effects he suffered from his domineering father, to his mental collapse and abandonment thereafter. And then we see him rise again to prominence, albeit in a still awkward and rambling state of somewhat insanity. Rush channels the lovable craziness of David with ease and puts forth a performance too loony tunes that it has to be true. I feel it is safe to say that he was well deserving of the Oscar and with hands down reasoning. . . If only the film didn't get discombobulated at times as if it was trying to embody the mind of its unstable main character. "Shine" really is an average film at best, but truly "shines" behind its main star putting forth his Oscar worthy effort to make this unique character study memorable for all its own crazy and quirky reasons. . .
