James N (nl) wrote: This is got to be one of the most crappiest children's film Ive ever seen. The original at least had a better storyline and the jokes were funny. This movie had none of the jokes were pretty bland and it seem like stole Shrek 2. If the star rating system had like a plagiarized button, this movie would fall under that category.

James H (br) wrote: Bland and downright boring thriller, cheesy production, silly performances and non existent direction. It meanders along aimlessly. It makes you wonder who thought this might actually be a good movie.

Nate W (ag) wrote: After modestly produced but immensely successful dramas like "It Happened One Night" and "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town", Frank Capra's ambitious, large-scale adaptation of the James Hilton novel "Lost Horizon" proved a consequential artistic risk that thankfully was not without reward. The first act - wherein a group of airplane passengers are flown deep into the Himalayas by a mysterious kidnapper - is dominated by intrigue, a mood not often associated with Capra's brand, but it really works well here. They are seemingly rescued from the wreckage of their crashed plan and led back to the idyllic mountain city of Shangri-La, a magnificently constructed environment that brought production designer Stephen Goosson a well deserved Academy Award. The second act, without a strong central conflict, feels like a long one to sit through, but brings up thought-provoking questions about perceptions of paradise and the hollowness or fullness of one's existence.

Trent M (nl) wrote: A comedic first act that works well with Lombard and the pre-"Philadelphia Story" Stewart. Second act tries to throw more disappointment and hardship than George Bailey ever suffered at the young couple and the third act is a harrowing bit of melodrama with a thrilling cross-country mercy flight that was very well filmed and includes a "reverse the charges" line that eases the tension. These changes in tone every thirty minutes or so are pretty jarring and don't really work well together. The leads are the stuff of dreams, but the rest sort of ruins the movie for me.

Phil H (ag) wrote: I love these 80's henchmen with their black outfits, mullets and inability to shoot straight. Add to that some extremely over the top action sequences and a large piece of wood in the form of Weathers and there you have it, a perfect 80's action film. This film is your typical tough guy flick with the same kind of action as many many other classic films like 'Lethal Weapon' and 'Red Heat' etc...Funnily enough this film has a few main cast members from the Arnie vehicle 'Predator' with Landham and Duke alongside Weathers. Talking of the cast this film has a mega cast of stars/80's faces...Robert Davi, Thomas F. Wilson, Craig T. Nelson, Sharon Stone, Ed O Ross, Miguel A. Nunez Jr and the ultimate henchman Al Leong. Only guy missing here is Arnie himself.I gotta admit I never really liked this flick as it just seems like a big action vehicle wannabe and just can't quite compete with the real big boys. I think Weathers is coming off a hot streak of films where he wasn't the main lead so the film didn't rest entirely on his shoulders.Weathers is a good tough guy, looks good and talks the talk but I just don't think he's got enough swing to hold an entire blockbuster film all on his own. For me he works better with other big names to spar with (no pun intended) eg. 'Rocky' and 'Predator'. The same goes for the main bad guy played by T. Nelson, he's slimy but isn't quite evil or threatening enough. Overall its a slightly unimpressive outcome but that lively 80's buzz is hard to ignore. Bit of a hit n miss non event action flick in an already flooded genre at the time.
