The Woman in White

A young painter stumbles upon an assortment of odd characters at an English estate where he has been hired to give art lessons to beautiful Laura Fairlie. Among them are Anne Catherick, a strange young woman dressed in white whom he meets in the forest and who bears a striking resemblance to Laura; cunning Count Fosco, who hopes to obtain an inheritance for nobleman Sir Percival Glyde, whom he plans to have Laura marry; Mr. Fairlie, a hypochondriac who can't stand to have anyone make the slightest noise; and eccentric Countess Fosco who has her own dark secret. The artist also finds himself drawn to Marion Halcomb, a distant relation to Laura for whom the Count also has plans.

Tara B (es) wrote: This is a great movie. Sally Field is wonderful. This movie will make you ask the question, "how well do I know this person?"

Faith M (de) wrote: A success of a film that created an enjoyable and memorable experience. The subject matter could have easily been taking in a dark atmosphere but the comedic tone made it pleasantly unique.

Lucas M (ru) wrote: Not so bad like everybody say, Arthur 2 is very inferior from the 1981 hit. At least Dudley Moore, with luck and funny charm save this sequel.

Larry G (it) wrote: If the gratuitous sex scenes, shown so artlessly, were removed, this could actually be a good film. The main actors, O'Toole, Gielgud, Mirren, McDowell, are actually riveting to watch. A good film editor could pull gold out of this movie. It is a shame that Guccione didn't realize the true potential of the film.

Adam B (ru) wrote: To think that this film was made only a year after Get Carter and stars Michael Caine and is directed by Mike Hodges, you might expext another gritty, northern gangster movie. Instead you get a story about a pulp fiction writer (Caine) ghost-writing a book about screen legend Mickey Rooney. The cast is excellent and the script is sharp and witty. Caine's snappy voice-overs help the film immensely and it never outstays its welcome. I suppose unless you are a fan of Michael Caine, then theres not a huge amount to offer, but give the film a try and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Rift S (jp) wrote: The film has great suspense and a good story. The action is well done and the cast is believable. The only problems I have are that it has a long running time and the blue screen effects (especially during the cable car scenes) are terrible.

Jason T (gb) wrote: It's feels like three different movies( modern romance, 40's romance, bull riding) but sadly they are all pretty average. The script is full of cliches and it tends to go on forever. The actors seems dedicated and its an ok date movie if its all you can find. But there are better choices out there.

Allan C (es) wrote: Kind of a 1980s style riff on Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" by director Curtis Hanson and writer David Koepp, both before they became much bigger names in Hollywood. Rob Lowe plays the title bd influence as he begins messing with straight-laced yuppie James Spader's life after Lowe saves Spader from a potential bar brawl. Lowe begins by introducing Spader to some fun low-level bay boy behavior with the ladies, but it quickly goes downhill from there involving sex tapes and armed robberies. Low is passable and it's interesting to see the usually villainous Spader as the meek protagonist. David Duchovny can be briefly glimpsed and Marcia Cross is Spader's girlfriend with amazing 80s hair. There's also Kathleen Wilhoite who I believe I remember seeing selling babies in several TV cop dramas. Overall, it's slickly made but probably not as good as it could have been.
