Jonathan B (ca) wrote: Winner of this year's Oscar for Best Live Action short. It's funny, cute and hard not to like, which isn't typical Academy material but it's pulled off quite well. It's also cool to see a college project get serious award recognition.

Sam M (ag) wrote: Not as strong as Depp's obvious classics, but only he and Liotta's performance are to be cared for.

Emily B (us) wrote: Predictable. The guy with the unibrow is always the killer.

Sean C (nl) wrote: A bit of a curiosity piece this one. Better made than I remember it being from viewing on Channel Four many years ago but still flatlines in terms of narrative, but then I doubt narrative was foremost on Jarman's mind when he made it.

Mathieu C (ag) wrote: I must first off say that I have always been a huge fan of Preston Sturges and love every one of his films, except for The Great Moment which I just like. This film teaches us that if you are a crooked man then you will be brought down the moment you decide to go straight. The film is wonderfully witty and also a little touching. The film is essentially a political satire but has characters we laugh at and also find interesting

David J (fr) wrote: With quality acting and a satisfactorily sweet ending, the movie hits the right notes. Mbatha-Raw is really passionate portraying a rising R&B star who has to conform to what the industry (and her demanding mom-manager) desire out of her. Her singing ability is also no slouch, and her spots singing alongside MGK's raps are more than plausible. Disney Channel this aint.' Nate Parker isn't quite so magnetic, but he holds his own as the handsome and virtuous police officer. However, plot elements, especially the entire romantic factor felt really rushed. It wasn't clear, but it literally felt like it took them the course of about two days to fall in actual love, then maybe a week to reach the end of the movie. Way too fast for the theme of unexpected and pure romance.Overall, its so much better than many music-romance films. Its poignant and lovely and well-made.

Jason G (ca) wrote: Though the ending is a little too quick and neat to be fully believable, this movie is fantastic. Kudos to Gilroy's impressive script and casting of Jake Gyllenhaal, who I initially expected to give a mere retread of his competent performance in "Zodiac" (another great film with similar themes), but who managed to make his character so perplexingly enticing that I felt it was a sin to blink whenever he was on screen.
