(jp) wrote: It's one of those movies I like for some specific reasons, ideas, or scenes, but is more fun in memory than it is when watched again, and I wouldn't necessarily suggest it. It was entertaining, but it didn't seem to know where it wanted to go in the end.
(gb) wrote: Brings up important topics for conversation, no doubt, but the naivete of the two main characters wore a little thin at times, plus the two siblings' desire for riches and not just a safe haven from the army really means that if they were in the rich white peoples' places they would both act the same way and not help other people so much. These two characters are mostly concerned about saving themselves, and rarely do you see them try and do a good deed for anybody other than them. But, like I said, this movie still raises many questions and thoughts and whatnot, and compared with a movie like the majority of any movie being released and produced in the wealthy country of the USA (both the critically acclaimed ones and the not) which usually as far as I've seen recently do not, this is a highly valuable thing indeed, and if you wanted to see this one, I would feel that you would not be doing wrong by doing so. For the fact that you gotta think about conditions and whatnot, I'd like to raise the score 0.5 stars, but, then I see the guy's moony face shown up in a close-up in my mind as he thinks about getting money, or the couples' dissatisfaction at the apartment they get up in los Estados Unidos, or the girl's looking through the Good Housekeeping mag at home, or whatever BS like that they're doing, and then I think, 'I dock a half-star off for that'. hmmm..... many thoughts are running through my mind that I'd like to add on here, but the review is long enough as it is. If you want to see it, see it. I'm not encouraging you not to.
