This Is Where I Leave You

When their father passes away, four grown, world-weary siblings return to their childhood home and are requested -- with an admonition -- to stay there together for a week, along with their free-speaking mother and a collection of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. As the brothers and sisters re-examine their shared history and the status of each tattered relationship among those who know and love them best, they reconnect in hysterically funny and emotionally significant ways.

When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide— driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves. . Ola S (us) wrote: I think I've said it before. The most interesting film country in Europe today is Rumania and this has been going on for a couple of years now. Movie history is full of stories about young criminals. And quite many boring times, this has been an excuse for showing boring empty violence. This film by Florin Serban has its violent moments too, but its not about betrayal inside the walls. The betrayal goes on outside by a convict's mother. The conflict it complex. If you see this, the important thing will not be to say about the character that he has to blame himself, or society or his fellow prisoners. He has good reasons to blame life, regardless of being in jail or not. There's also a kind of love story here, which is destructive, but also something you have to blame on life.Don't say we decide our fate. It's not always that simple. Not if you ask Florin Serban.

It could have been an excellent film if it were not for the ending. The ending absolutely killed the movie for me, after everything that happened and that is the ending we get? It was just such a weak ending in my opinion.

It doesn't evoke any of the feelings or words I think of when I see a movie like LOL or Quiet City.Anyway, even though I despise the term "mumblecore," I think this movie is kind of brilliant. It's beautifully sad in it's unassuming observations about...well, people like you and me. The emotions are true, the situations are real, there are no easy answers or even any closure, because that would be false. A terrific little movie and worthy of being seen, if not Swanberg's best.

Alex C (it) wrote: An action movie with no real plot or character depth to speak of, the film's real strengths lie in Jackie Chan's action scenes and ineffable charm coupled with a finale involving a hovercraft cruising through the streets of New York (actually Vancouver).

Jose M (au) wrote: I Come in Peace, yup the Albino alien says the title of the film right before he kills his victims. I saw this film in TeleMundo and took the risk because I didn't have to pay anything to watch this. The movie is pretty bad as you imagine and very inept to the max. I did enjoy the film because it is pretty funny in a bad way, but it does not have enough for it be "sooo bad it's good". The guy continues to say he comes in peace and kills a number of people, but an alien cop arrives to stop him. I think "why send one? Send backup!"

Anthony S (ag) wrote: If I want to watch Will Smith, there'd better be aliens, explosions, or both.
