Ben H (jp) wrote: 'While the City Sleeps' is an effective piece of entertainment that externalizes America's fascination with serial killers. It plays as more as a social commentary rather than crime thriller, giving an incisive look at media amidst murder investigation, while producing full complex characters that intertwines their own personal problems and motivations against with danger. Though, I don't approve of the cheap shot about comic books, (which would have probably added to the social hysteria of the time) the film's aesthetics seems to contradict this, reflecting that of a pulpy, B-movie nature.
Jos (mx) wrote: Oh, this is a wonderful farce, so joyfully stupid it warms the bottom of my heart just to remember it. It's one of the larger scale Carry On films, and as often discussed, the film looks big for its budget because the production used the sets and costumes from the Richard Burton/Liz Talyor film Cleopatra that had recently been abandoned. Most of the films in this long series contain some form of innuendo (generally it is mild, though in some of the later movies it became crude), and this is no exception. How can anyone not appreciate Sid James raucously laughing Mark Anthony, the square wheel (so bicycles won't slip down hills) and Julius Caesar's parting line, "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in-for-me!".Innocent at heart, totally ridiculous, and great entertainment.
Trevor P (ca) wrote: I love the way that teenage love is treated in this film, despite the odd arrangement of its poorly explained, disjointed events. It's also hard to get into the plot when the "Half-Blood Prince" is only mentioned a couple of times, and in moments that are not central to the key conflict. Yet the chillingly spooky feel of this monumental part of the series leaves its greatest impression with a strict color palette of pale, brown, rust, and black.

People in their 20s trying to figure things without role models, after the generation before us sold us for a pair of sneakers (Apple products maybe today?) My favorite 90s IT girl Winona movie, and one of my favorite Ethan Hawk films. This films is so vulnerable and ageless. And one of the best phrases you'll ever here is quoted in this film "All you have to do by the time you're 23, is yourself"
