They explore their parents' broken marriages, and innocent youthful infatuation, with a wild climax involving a waterbed, a bubble bath and many sets of parents their new relationships: girlfriend, second husband, lawyer, employee, etc. Among the parents are a young John Lithgow and a young Kathryn Walker (the former girlfriend of Doug Kenney, founder of National Lampoon, an author of Animal House and Caddyshack, and other projects. He jumped off a cliff in depression when he thought Caddyshack was a flop. Kathryn Walker then married James Taylor. Now she's written a roman a clef about it all. And then there's Trini Alvarado, who has gone on to star in many films. And the young man who played her boyfriend, Jeremy Levy? He's now a professor of astro-physics at the University of Pittsburgh. Smart film, produced by Robert Altman, with other stars including Irene Worth and Olympia Dukakis. Neat.

Reading the summary of the film, one might think that the film may be heavy or preachy but it simply shows how two broken people find each other and their own happy stories. It is a gem of a film in that the characters, especially Ned and Rachel, are very human, real, and multidimensional. I don't think I will ever forget this film.

Needless to say, Fox is slowly drained of his riches, his self-esteem, & even his personality, as he constantly tries to appease the man he loves.

I think it can be hard to be understood by the newest generations of today, so used to be overstimulated and not being able to enjoy the simple nature of things, as a beautiful well executed classical piece that brings up to life fantastic creatures and original stories. There is no need to have a specific plot when the idea is that the music and images are the red thread thorough the movie. Some parts might be a bit too complex for kids to understand and purely enjoy, but why everything has to be easy and served on a silver plate?

(es) wrote: Not overlong.. not too obvious. quite frankly enjoyable kids film. Some nice touches and slick (if quite stylised) animation.I watched this subbed. I cannot abide dubbing at the best of times.. unless a studio takes time to really engage talented vocal actors... most of the time it grates on me. But then i like all my asian stuff subbed... at least until i get my act together and learn chinese (^^)bWithout laying down any spoilers, i very much enjoyed the presence of non-western mythology dragons in a film.I also thought the characters were pretty interesting. Its not without it's faults.. or glossed over elements, but there were a lot of nice touches and i though the relationship building was kinda cute.
