Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Recently-retired MI6 agent, George Smiley is doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service until a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the service. Smiley is drawn back into the murky field of espionage, tasked with investigating which of his trusted former colleagues has chosen to betray him and their country. Smiley narrows his search to four suspects – all experienced, skilled and successful agents – but past histories, rivalries and friendships make it far from easy to pinpoint the man who is eating away at the heart of the British establishment.

The movie revolves around George Smiley, a recently retired MI6 agent, who is doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service. However, when information comes to him that there may be a Soviet spy, a mole, at the very top of the British secret service, George is forced to uncover the agent within MI6. . Donald W (ca) wrote: This movie is a 116 minute situation comedy. Julia Roberts plays a small town woman who keeps running out on getting married at the last minute. Richard Gere plays a newspaper writer from New York who writes an article in USA today about her. He gets fired because she writes a letter to the Editor and complains that his facts were wrong. My question is who reads USA today. Only people in airports of hotels away from home read USA Today. The only way the people in that small town would see the article would be if their local paper picked it up and reprinted it. In the movie they had the USA Today being delivered to everyone's doorstep. Anyway Richard Gere's character goes to the small town to find the real facts and to write a longer magazine article. During the course of the movie they fall in love. The movie is slightly funny. I didn't find the romance between Julia Roberts' character and Richard Gere's character believable but Julia Roberts is cute.

Jeff B (ca) wrote: Sure, this isn't Training Day, but it's still a very good cop/gangster film in its own right. Fuqua cemented his status as a great action-movie director in my mind. Fine performances all-around.

The Movie W (jp) wrote: Blaxploitation icon Rudy Ray Moore made a bunch of trashy movies in the seventies, starting here where he plays a convict freed to help take down a drug cartel. It's got everything you want from a blaxploitation flick; a funky as hell soundtrack, hot women, badly choreographed fight scenes and witty dialogue from Moore which makes Muhammed Ali seem inarticulate. A Friday night six pack movie if ever there was one.
