Ray T (de) wrote: Another interesting take on the movie business as a movie maker is asked to be a judge of film contest in this black comedy of a man who can get no respect no matter what he does. The humor gets cloyingly repetitious as he navigates his way through parties, meeting with an old friend who feels he is owed something, meeting a poet he reveres that results in humiliation and his attempt to guest teach a film class. Interspersed are possible dream sequences that are not clearly delineated coming across as clumsy non sequiturs.

Slow to begin, the film eventually finds its own rhythm but too late. John Malkovich may have been a good choice but he overdoes his part and comes off as detached and lacking commitment. Some of the decisions made by Jessica Haines' character are difficult to understand for people who have never been exposed to South African native culture.

This is an excellent way to enter into the World of Chaplin and will inspire you to watch, or re-watch his best films as there are several clips featured here. Give it a try! - I enjoyed this one a lot as Chaplin has such a fascinating story and it's a really good performance from Robert Downey Jr.. Check it out!
