Brian B (es) wrote: It's barely bloody, not sadistic, and not jumpy. It's the sort of horror your mind creates while dreaming about familiar objects and people. It's about the relationship between what is seen/barely seen/not seen and what is heard. For the artist, it's the terror/pain of their artistic process.

Brett H (mx) wrote: Road to Perdition is the immaculately directed, violent gangster piece from Sam Mendes, who adapted the story from the graphic novel series of the same name, and boy does it leave an impression! The film stars Tom Hanks, playing against-type, as a mob enforcer who is forced to go on the run when a tragedy befalls his family after his son witnesses something he wasn't supposed to see. Him and his son then work as a team robbing the crime boss's bank accounts until they can come to an understanding, all the while being pursued by a ruthless assassin played brilliantly by Jude Law. The acting in this film is extraordinary with nearly every main cast member playing out of their comfort zone with Hanks being a skilled killer, Paul Newman playing the conflicted mob boss, Daniel Craig playing the skiddish and jealous heir to the crime family, and of course Jude Law as the psychopathic hitman who revels in taking photos of the dead. This is a truly arresting piece of filmmaking and with Oscar-winning cinematography, the images jump from the pages of the graphic novel to the screen in great detail and many of the shots will stick in my mind permanently! It's a great story, with well-rounded and memorable characters, features flawless direction from Sam Mendes, and the gorgeous cinematography is truly an impressive feat!

Michael S (us) wrote: Fans of Bela Lugosi, and B-movies will probably enjoy this one, as I did- though not enough to give it higher than two stars. This movie is more comical than scary, and even a person who is afraid of bats (me) isn't going to be scared by the rubber bat this movie has- even if it is the size of a basketball. The acting is pretty cliche as well, with little in the way of character development... but that's to be expected when you watch a film made by a studio that used to fall be called one of the "Poverty Row Studios" for it's low budget and quick filming time. However, if you want to have a laugh with friends, this is a good film to watch over beers and good company.

Tim S (ca) wrote: Visiting Hours is a Canadian horror film about a psychotic killer who decides to prey upon a woman he sees on TV, as well as a few other unfortunates. It features Linda Purl, William Shatner and Michael Ironside as the killer. I was actually quite angry at the movie when the killer killed an old lady in her hospital bed and watched her die. That upset me quite a bit and I had a hard time getting back into the movie after that. I know it's just a movie, but it reminded me of real life and I took it too seriously. I guess that happens sometimes. The movie itself is very, very slow, and could have been cut down in editing to improve the pace, and maybe even lose a few scenes. It's a predictable movie that doesn't have a whole lot going on it really, even though it wants you to think it does. It's not the worst "slasher" I've ever seen, but I don't often get offended by them, so I can't say that I'd recommend it.
