There is a biting social criticism behind the story, about the superficiality of rich people and their inability to see the dignity, indeed the lives, of those who are 'less' or different, but it is played deftly, by actors who do the job rather than say they are doing the job and direction which respects intelligence. Would=be child actors (and their parents) might learn much from the girl in this film, her vivacity, her projection of intelligence by being intelligent rather than just acting smart. There is also a cross cultural element. I will say no more, other than that if you are not warmed and made thoughtful; by it, I'll give you at best one star :-)

It's not a terrible film by any means, but all the morality and characters are so simplistic it's hard to really cling to anything. While at times its overt earnestness would almost beat me into submission, its overreaching goals, lack of focus, and HORRENDOUS makeup work make it nothing more than a less skillful and less entertaining Forrest Gump.

This movie is filled with gore and not for the faint at heart...hence the title. The end does have an interesting twist. However, to quote my father-in-law, I give it a C for Confusing.

(kr) wrote: I made a copy of this for a friend so I decided to rewatch it myself, as it'd been far too long. For what it is (a partial look at the making of Lynch's then new film Lost Highway and an overview of his methods, collaborators, etc.) this documentary is perfect. Shot on video and at 30fps, it feels more like a DVD special feature than a film itself but it'd make for a 5 star DVD feature. An interesting look at an interesting artist.
