Bengel W (es) wrote: Well they say there is always a strong woman behind a man and this woman was so weak that she destroyed a man. Trying to make it in America requires a cut throat attitude and a sensible mind and this movie proves that money can be made if you push the weak hard enough. Strongly acted with lots of sex and drugs adding to the ambiance. Nibbles: Puerto Rican rice pudding.

James B (mx) wrote: kurosawa took a lot of risks here... and not all of them work. ultimately, it's an okay film with some really interesting artistic elements. the closing sequence has some really dramatic camera movements and lighting that completely make up for the failed experiment heading into the scene. kurosawa does a good job directing his actors here, in deep despair and unbridled hope, but the extremes are so diverse it almost makes the film seem a bit bipolar. an interesting film for fans, but definitely not required viewing.

Tatsuhito K (ag) wrote: A stylish and compelling police drama propelled by Denzel Washington's Oscar-winning performance. Although there are some major plot holes throughout and its plausibility is highly questionable, the film is consistently on fire, especially when Washington and Hawke go head to head with each other. I liked Fuqua's directing style, the fillm's kinetic energy, and the two strong central performances. The ending is not quite satisfying, but everything else is damn good. Training Day is flawed and can be uncomfortable at times, but the performances alone make this taut, thought-provoking thriller worth seeing.
