(br) wrote: Oz the Great and Powerful is a decent prequel to The Wizard Of Oz. The film has mostly good characters, with expansion and depth to them. Visually the film is stunning and the 3D that goes along with it, is amazing, some of the best 3D I've seen in a film; this 3D adds more beauty, wonder and dazzle to the story. So I highly recommend viewing this film in 3D. Although, the film does suffer from some tonal inconsistency; lacking some darker themes and quirky elements that this film would benefit from. Also at times some of the acting can be uneven.
(br) wrote: Super hi bad. It's about an evil car that eats people except, wait, it's NOT a car. It's a creature that has evolved to look like a car, but it's really a mass of tentacles and teeth done in terrible purple CG. It's evil Barney disguised s a car monster, and he wants to eat a bunch of third-rate Canadian actors. Aieeee! Run away! Run away! No, seriously. Run away. Not at all scary and lacking the risk-taking needed to be funny in that special so-bad-it"s-fun way, "Super Hybrid" crashes and burns from the outset. In fact, it doesn't even have a hybrid in it... there's no reason to think the monster is, and despite all of its shapeshifting, it never once appears as a hybrid vehicle! Yep, this flick is so brain-dead it can't even get its own title right. Keep driving by this highway disaster!

(ca) wrote: Watching this again, I was struck by how much more depth there is to the characters and their relationship than what I remember. The visuals and the lovely cinematography had less of an effect this time around, but they are truly worth seeing. An excellent historical adventure.19/07/08

(br) wrote: So let's start with the good: Bryan Singer's tribute to Richard Donner film takes place in a continuity that does not acknowledge that Superman III or IV happened, John Williams's original score is used, Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, modern CGI. Yep, that's it. Kate Bosworth was horrible as Lois Lane and Lex Luthor's motive was again as a land obsessed real estate lover rather than a true criminal mastermind trying to piece together something to destroy Superman. Routh was obviously cast due to this resemblance to Christopher Reeve in both looks and the sound of his voice. The script pretty much turns Superman into a creepy stalker as he watches Lois from outside her window. Of course the worst part of the movie was Lois's son for reasons that you'll see if you decide to watch this. It is not surprising that the franchise did not produce another film with this cast or director despite making a hefty sum at the box office.
