Unfolding in a similar manner to Monty Python's Flying Circus, the film fluctuates between the highest elements of post-modernism (rejection of objectivity, focus on language) and the lowest elements of post-modernism (being weird for the sake of being weird). The use of language, from the generic speak to the adulterers' code to the mixture of foreign tongues, is a genius way of presenting miscommunication between partners, yet the less connected pieces of the story, while entertaining at first, eventually lose their energy and stall progress. It's very difficult to make a "great" experimental film, mostly because they typically prioritize concept, structure and visuals over character, plot or storytelling. As an experiment, Schizopolis is an hilarious success. As a whole film, it falls just short of being very good. But perhaps that's my fault.
