Neil O (ca) wrote: Delightfully accomplished independent comedy about growing up, self acceptance and coming out which is both sharp and witty. Cliche free and full of wondeful one liners, this is perfectly written and ultimately profoundly moving. The cast is all very good especially lead Michael McMillian.

Simon M (au) wrote: It seems that this movie has had mostly terrible reviews since its release in the late 1990s. This is quite strange considering the humour is pretty similar to that of Larry David's TV work - Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Let us remember that Seinfeld was the most watched and most successful comedy show in the history of television! Some reviewers claim this film is 'nasty-hearted' or 'mean-spirited'. I guess these people don't watch said TV shows too closely, because the majority of Seinfeld and Curb characters are selfish and manipulative, with a regular dose of self-deprecation/self-loathing. Perhaps stripped of the incredibly loud Seinfeld audience giving the laughter cues to the viewer, this kind of humour begins to make some people feel uneasy. I, for one, think it should always be without a laughter track (this is one thing that makes Curb more appealing for me). I will admit that the acting is not great, but it doesn't really need to be. It is good enough for the story and the dialogue (which is surprisingly good, for the most part). There are many moments which are quintessential LD! The premise alone is something that wouldn't be out of place in Seinfeld or Curb. A man feels cheated because he lent his cousin two quarters to play one more time on a slot machine, and the cousin wins the jackpot and fails to share any of the winnings with him. The musical choices are also typically David, with most of the score coming from well-known classical pieces, which works well (not as well as the music in Curb, of course, but then I doubt anything can match the all-Italian accompaniment put together for that show). I think that if this film could be remade today - with better comedic actors and even better dialogue - as a collaboration between Larry David and Woody Allen, it would be simply great! But even as it is, there is a lot of good in this movie. If you like Seinfeld and/or Curb, then I don't understand why you wouldn't enjoy at least some of this much-berated film.

Matt H (fr) wrote: One of the best giallos to come out of the heyday of Italian horror stars Fabio Testi as a gym coach at an all girls Catholic school where he's having an affair with one of his students. Attempting to keep the relationship under wraps however becomes a bit complicated when Testi's lover glimpses a murder of one of her school mates while the two are relaxing in a canoe leaving Testi with an alibi and information about the case he is unable to use in fear of his affair coming to light. Soon after, more and more students wind up being murdered and our protagonist must decide whether to help the police or his reputation. Even though it manages to include the underlying sexual themed motive common to the genre (Giallo's are Italian murder mysteries named for the yellow colored paperbacks flooding Italy), What Have You Done to Solange? instead carries enough development amongst it's characters that it's hard to find one you don't like, and refreshingly, ones that act the way we would.

Paxton is a great scumbag, and I actually liked all the supporting hikers O'Donnell picks up to save his sister. Some of the action sequences are super intense, including the opening one.I always watch this whenever it comes on TV. It's a pretty fun adventure if you can get past the crazy plot.
