Allan C (de) wrote: Once a horror series gets to the point of three or four sequels, it's pretty important that something fresh happen or else it's going to be a pretty stale sequel. This surprisingly strong sequel in the [REC] series has the novel idea of taking all of the surviving characters from the previous three films and places them all in quarantine (the name of the American remake of the first film) on a floating medical/military ship conducting tests on those who survived the zombie outbreak. As you can presumably guess, a zombie outbreak happens on the ship, but brining back characters from the previous films seemed like a fun way to close out the series that took all new characters and stories for the first three films in the series. Another reason this series has remained consistently good is that you'd have the same writer/director involved, Jaume Balaguer. Solid zombie entertainment, and thankfully this film abandoned the shaky ham found footage conceit of the first two films. However, although the running and screaming and fleeing from zombies is well done, it wasn't al that different from any number of other zombie pictures. Although not very fresh, it is done better than most. This one was mostly different because it was closing out the series, so if you want to see the finale to a fine zombie series, it's worth checking out but probably the weakest of the series.
