Ethan B (gb) wrote: I can't say that there's much to love in Fading Gigolo. Maybe it's because I can't relate. A quarter-life-crisis, sure, but not a midlife one. But to say that the movie is bad would be largely incorrect. The film, for the most part, is harmless. It's a sex comedy for older men, but it doesn't do much to offend. It even purposely keeps it classy by pervading lounge jazz in the background the entire time. In fact, there's not a whole lot of silence in the film, now that I think of it.Fading Gigolo stars John Turturro, who also writes and directs, as Fioravante, a florist who becomes strapped for cash and is counseled by his good friend, Murray (Woody Allen), into becoming a male prostitute while Murray manages him. Turturro plays his character as a man of few words, and Allen--well--plays a version of himself of course. This time, his normal insecure idiosyncrasies take on a slightly more sordid personality.Narratively, it starts up quickly, but meanders a bit after the first 30 minutes or so. One of its biggest weaknesses is the dialogue, which is very stiff when any character besides Woody Allen is speaking. It's not so much the verbiage, but the characters' rote delivery of it. The banter between Turturro and anyone else (sans Allen) feels routine and phony. It's actually painful at some points. The highlight would have to be Woody, who provides us with the comic relief amongst otherwise arid characters. Not that they don't have depth--they're just all written as very laconic. It takes some odd turns here and there, and doesn't quite seem to know where it wants to end up. There are some brief touches of surrealism throughout which actually give the film much of its character. But overall, it's a movie that has a purpose. You have to commend it for trying to reach a certain audience--one that isn't so often approached.Twizard Rating: 72

Valentin G (ag) wrote: This movie shows us in an excellent way, how Nelson Mandela managed to unite South Africa, after apartheid through the Rugby World Cup. Clint Eastwood knows how to direct this kind of films and this kind of actors. 8/10

Toby E (nl) wrote: I'm unsure of a origin of this film... the title is very misleading. Yes there is a beetle and a bag of weed but its not quite what you would expect. This is a well written comedy centring around a group of friends from high school (now in their 30's) having the chance to take a different route and correct the wrongs of their youth bringing a new lease of energy into their lives.A entertaining watch.

richard c (ca) wrote: The movie is dreadfully boring with terrible animation. There's not much to see here except for some interesting out of place voice work.

Julianna Y (es) wrote: This movie is an outrage because it is the cheap American remake of a fine film. Seeing it on its own make it an odd little movie. Seeing it in contrast with Rashomon makes it seem like the high school production of a Shakespearean play. The acting is mediocre in comparison, and the backdrops are so bad I almost feared the actors might back up too much and fall into them. In trying to recast the story for an American audience, the omissions and changes resulted in the loss of all the power and integrity behind Rashomon.

Jimbo S (gb) wrote: Struck me as a fore-runner of the TV series Quantum Leap. Joe was a likeable yet rather rash personality, and it was evident that his character was open to new avenues. It provided the inspiration for numerous other films, I suppose with each of which it was desired to transpose another angle onto the premise, which is solid enough. Very good, but only great in terms of its influence.

Paul D (gb) wrote: This movie is definitely aimed at younger audiences, but they deserve good movies too! All things considered, I found this to be funny. Not one of the great films of our time, but it is a fun way to entertain the kids without numbing your brain too much.

John T (gb) wrote: Lets get real here, never mind the critics wonderful choice of words, this was such a poor film that had a story line where there was going to be some great climax and wait I did and I wished I hadn't bothered. N.K brief nudity now seems to be her calling card, but in summary keep your clothes on a find a film where you can win back your fan club, but don't waste your time watching this film as you can certainly find better thing to do!

Miguel R (ag) wrote: Sudden Impact was an overall fair attempt in creating a brutal and entertaining sequel, but wasn't at all great compared to the previous films due to the lack of crafting a clever plot

Chad R (au) wrote: Great movie. It takes a while to build up, as intended, but the journey is still a constant struggle to find out whether something is actually wrong, what is going to happen, and when will it happen. The only thing I would of wished for was a better sequence of end scenes, but it will still a genuinely good movie.
