Brent F (ca) wrote: For a low low budget film it was actually a bit better than I expected lol. The acting was horrible but they seemed to be having some fun with that. The story was actually decent for one about humans being saved by vampires, fighting vampires turned into zombies by mad cow disease (they're nice vampires so they drink cows blood). The concept was good at least. It's really more action porn though, if you like seeing people use numerous types of guns in slow motion you'll be in heaven. In slow motion big guns look even more phallic than one would expect. The little flashbacks about the main vampire group was surprisingly intriguing. With a bigger budget, tighten up the writing, and a few decent actors there's no reason why it wouldn't be a decent movie.

I think I would classify this as "horror" actually, it's very unsettling and makes me wonder why I bother with my little bit of recycling with the state of things in China. Not much of a "profile" on the artist, he's just there taking pictures and doing the odd voice over. Came across a bit long winded and dry in places, and oddly filmed in black and white in sections which I found distracting. The ship breakers scene in Bangladesh stands out as does the brick by brick (by hand) leveling of entire cities, in order to make way for shipping lanes and the Three Gorges Dam. That was pretty horrifying due to the scale involved. I have seen other (better) documentaries on these subjects and as I said this really doesn't profile the artist at all. 06.13

But for me it talks about the "reality" and about the nature of the life and to enjoying it by itself. I mean, everybody was so worried about the political events and issues of identity, while the "crazy" where more happy living "apart" of those events. For me, the message was in this way: the blindness of the human been looking that he is been victim of himself, building identities and making a big deal of the so called "ethnic groups" and "religious groups" instead of turning their eyes and enjoyed and share whatever we have arround...I still think that there is more inside this movie, a lot of metaphoric language that i dont know if i am overinterpretating...

Thomas A (gb) wrote: Despite the religious backdrop, the story on the whole speaks more of a universal love for fellow human beings, and that "all sinners have a future" and "all saints have a past". Which makes it a worthwhile watch if one is in the mood for family historical drama.
Mark V (ag) wrote: This is not a movie that ages well. This movie is carried mostly by Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey. Half of the movie I was just fixated on Dana Carvey's pursed lips. It's fantastic to watch them work. Also, Rob Lowe as the baddie and his hilariously bad 80s fashion. Pants didn't have enough pleats for my liking but hilarious still. While watching the movie, I was trying to figure out what the conceit of the movie was. Are we simply watching an episode of Wayne's World? Is this The Office where the camera man is an actual person? Is this just the visualization of them telling us a story? The correct answer is: Whatever Mike Meyers says at the end of the film. It's a loose conceit that just bothered me throughout the movie. They break fourth wall to talk to the camera man who is not there when we cut to a longer shot. Yes, I'm being a curmudgeon but it's honestly lazy film-making. It's an SNL bit that they extended to 90 minutes. Though, this lapse is acceptable. At least they (in character) addressed it. Now, what I can't stand is the amount of music videos in this film. Oh god, I hated it. Anytime there was music that the characters were jamming along to, I count that as a music video. Yes yes, Bohemian Rhapsody was a music video. Seeing the paramour do her songs, all of that is a music video. That's what irritated me the most. I'm just wasting my time now with the movie. I hate when movies waste my time. You don't like it when video games give you "fetch quests" to do to pad out the length, I don't like music videos in the middle of my movies. At least Bohemian Rhapsody was fun. Every scene with Cassandra Wong was torture. I was screaming out loud during her scenes. It was bad enough that I couldn't take her seriously as a music star, I couldn't take her seriously as a person. I couldn't understand half the things she said or did. This movie ramps up in quality as we near the climax of the movie. The last 30 minutes are actually fun, once we get passed the music video bullshit. Less wong though, please.
