(es) wrote: Let me say this upfront, I am not going to answer the following questions. Where did I hear about this movie? How did I get a hold of this movie? How the hell did I get myself to watch this movie? 5 minutes into it, felt like a watchable B-Movie with its tried and tested successful combination of genres and a visual effect that lasted a few seconds looked decent. The next few minutes revealed its true colors. It is not corny (thankfully) but it is way too silly. In a future when humans are scarce, scattered and stupid, 3 people (Savan, Kaleb and Dorel) set out on a silly forgettable journey when their village is attacked by some sort of Zombies. Their bite or breath can turn a human into Zombie former faster than latter and all three of them are infected in a slower way. Amal (Sean Bean) is stalking Kaleb since he knows his father and thinks if Kaleb is as intelligent as his father, he might be the hope for human race. Definitely there are some talented people involved in this project. Though not very consistent, cinematography is alright, background score is apt at times but mostly spoiled by the quality of sound. Actors had the capability and they believed they were doing a masterpiece. Dialogues are orthodox and template driven. Now after throwing generous praise on all the departments, what could have gone wrong here? It is silly and immature where a 5th grader in Super 8 had a better handle on his script. With a highly uneven pacing and character development, hasty conclusions and tedious and unnecessary drag of a climax, I should get an award for sitting through it. Like anyone and everyone out there wondering what Sean Bean was doing here, I second them all. It is highly unlikely you will come across this movie, if you do - read this review again.

(br) wrote: Although I think the essence of this film is great, for me it paints him as a bit of an abrupt ladies' man, and there seem to be many inaccuracies throughout the film. Did he really have a relationship with Gachet's daughter? I've researched for years and have never read it anywhere!
(it) wrote: This is man unsettling film to say the least, but it's is also a well made action-thriller. Burt Reynolds is great in this and Jon Voight is good as well. Director John Boorman did an excellent job capturing the environment in this and really making it all seem authentic. A classic action/adventure film for sure!

The more I think about it, the sadder I realize it is. The title alone is enough to evoke a mesh of feelings inside me, which I don't want to discuss -- which is ironic, considering how cold and detached Safe is. But I guess that's the kind of thing that a great film is able to achieve.

(de) wrote: Compelling performances made me care about these characters, who age convincingly as they are played by the same actors across generations. They drive a plot with shocking surprises. They dispense bits of wisdom unsubtly but without seeming too cliched. The action starts in 1970s Argentina, but it would be a mistake to make too much of political references; if you are looking for a better understanding of that place and time, this is not the place to find it, though the story succeeds on its own terms.
