Two Lives

Two Lives

Europe 1990, the Berlin wall has just crumbled: Katrine, raised in East Germany, but now living in Norway for the last 20 years, is a “war child”; the result of a love relationship between a Norwegian woman and a German occupation soldier during World War II. She enjoys a happy family life with her mother, her husband, daughter and granddaughter. But when a lawyer asks her and her mother to witness in a trial against the Norwegian state on behalf of the war children, she resists. Gradually, a web of concealments and secrets is unveiled, until Katrine is finally stripped of everything, and her loved ones are forced to take a stand: What carries more weight, the life they have lived together, or the lie it is based on?

As the Berlin Wall crumbles, Katrine, the daughter of a Norwegian woman and a German occupation soldier, finds her idyllic life disrupted as she refuses to testify a trial against the Norwegian state on behalf of her fellow "war children." . You can read more in Google, Youtube, Wiki

Tyler E (us) wrote: This was a god awful movie. Waste of great talents. Every main character had some cliche character flaw that was way over played. John Malkovich was the only good thing from this movie.

However as an indie movie, it is probably one the best character studies you would see. The film consists of literally just 3 characters played by Kevin Spacey, Danny DeVito and Peter Facinelli. This time around Spacey is a much more charismatic actor and is a delight to watch on screen and although he didn't have punch lines, the extreme sense of sarcasm in his character keeps the movie going without a moment of boredom. Danny DeVito on the other hand changes up his style too with a darker and much more mature character and plays it to perfection. The movie is very very dialogue oriented and don't expect to see much of action at all. However, the content the 3 of them go throughout the movie touches upon so many problems all ages would understand and sympathize to. An incredible movie to watch for the more serious viewers out there. Also the ending narration is just a few minutes of pure genius.

Kris W (it) wrote: "There is no honour amongst thieves." Bob Rafelson has stated that this is the final part of an informal trilogy he started with "Five Easy Pieces" and continued with "The King Of Marvin Gardens". In the three, Nicholson has now played son, brother and father. In this one, Nicholson is a wealthy wine dealer who has distanced himself from his wife (Judy Davis) with his philandering and from his son (Stephen Dorf) with his negligence. After he steals a diamond necklace with the help of a safecracker partner, Victor (Caine), things start coming apart. His wife sets out to interrupt what she thinks is another one of his weekend dalliances, but is really his trip to pawn the jewels. Also features Jennifer Lopez and Harrold Perrineau. Victor: There's no such thing as honor among thieves. It's a myth. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Gates: I've got an idea. Why don't you sit down at your desk and write down all your complaints, and when I come back, we can have one of those long arguments you like so much. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason: You don't look like a maid. Gabriela 'Gabby': I'm not, I'm the nanny. Do I look like a nanny? Jason: No. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gabriela 'Gabby': [flirting in broken English] I never see anybody to fish in the grass before. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Gates: Frank ever come on to you? Gabriela 'Gabby': He have a beautiful wife. Alex Gates: Oh. *She* ever come on to you? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gabriela 'Gabby': So where are we going? Jason: Ah, we got about 4 hours to Cuba. Gabriela 'Gabby': Oh really. It took me a week - 15 of us on a very small boat. Jason: I can turned around if you want. Gabriela 'Gabby': No, it's okay. I like the water. Even when we were coming over, the sea was so beautiful. I never wanted to sleep, I was happy. I was ashamed to be so happy. People were dying. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Gates: Look, I got an idea. Why don't you sit down at your desk and write out all your complaints, then when I get back we can have one of those nice long fights that you like so much. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Gates: What is that, some sort of Latin concept, kill the one you love? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gabriela 'Gabby': What are you doing here? Jason: I came to see the cats. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Henry: The only fish I wanna see is on a plate with a piece of lemon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [last lines] Jason: You need to hurry.

Sarah Jean B (es) wrote: Love this movie! it's funny, witty, and really freaky. For being made in the 30s this movie was probably very tongue in cheek at the time.

Justin B (de) wrote: It avoids the grizzly trappings of the torture/captivity horror genres by flipping the tables but it's still far too morose to genuinely enjoy.
