Walter M (it) wrote: "Of Time and the City" is a ponderous video essay from Terence Davies wherein he explores his youth and the past of his home city of Liverpool. In remembering his childhood and the lost movie palaces, his lecturing tone makes him sound just like your crabby Marxist grandfather. And there is very little of interest done with the large amount of archival footage on hand, failing to put much of it in context. Even taking on such an easy target as the royal family, the result just sounds like sour grapes. Say what you will about the Windsors, but you cannot say anything bad about the Beatles who transcended their early pop roots and revolutionized music.

Frederick M (jp) wrote: A documentary which compares dreary post-industrial Manchester to the dreary but excellent lyrics of Ian Curtis. Did he somehow cause Manchester's resurgence? It's a bit of a stretch but this is just the underlying message of the film. I'm not a huge JD fan but some of their tracks are quite good. Many are very dreary. No surprise that Curtis was bipolar. Many of the best artists are but there wasn't a lot of depth to the documentary besides a few anecdotes about his sometimes unusual behaviour.

David A (jp) wrote: Hilarious from beginning to end, Weber plays a gay man who decides to give up sex because of AIDS. Then he falls in love with an HIV-positive hunk (Weiss) and doesn?t know if he can accept the responsibilities of such a relationship. The movie keeps very faithful to Paul Rudnick's original stage play - almost to a fault. Characters talking to the camera and intentionally cheesy fantasy sequences are endearing; sometimes, though, it feels like a two-hour pilot for a new gay Ferris Bueller sitcom. Stewart is marvelously foppish as Jeffrey's best friend. Add cameos by Sigourney Weaver, Kathy Najimy, Nathan Lane, and Christine Baranski, and you've got great light entertainment that still makes you think. Adaptational faults aside, you?ve got to love Jeffrey for showing the necessity of humor during times of crisis. POST-REVIEW 11/22/2009: I've seen this on video and TV broadcast since, and this film plays MUCH better on the small screen... I've enjoyed it every time I've caught it.

Matthew L (mx) wrote: This was so awful it was actually hilarious, so I'll give it an extra star for that. Don't those Italian women know that they need to stay virgins for Dracula to not puke on their blood? The poor Count got no respect. He even got murdered in a Monty Python-esque style. My God this was terrible, but I got several good laughs out of it so I will say that my time was not wasted.

Jacky L (gb) wrote: real mixed feelings about this one. jim broadbent and lindsay duncan were great but the film was also kinda pretentious-like. while some parts were very real (the portrayal of this 30-year old relationship: how when love goes, and life gets in the way), some were hard to believe. wouldn't call this a straight-out comedy case you're looking' for a laugh-out-loud.
Ville H (it) wrote: Nyt on niin huono, ett on jo hyv!

Tammy R (de) wrote: Very Predictable. Lacking reality. For a person too kill off a person then assume their identity (even paying off some taxes) without anyone noticing is laughable. They also do not bury a body unless identifying the person threw records. Sort of the crap movie you have seen many times and wish you have not wasted your time.
