joseph b (br) wrote: This movie is a fun gangster movie, not a oscars film, that's the only thing really wrong with it.

Carrie F (mx) wrote: Fresh, new, exciting horror film of the year.

Becky B (jp) wrote: Really beautiful movie. Very creative, romantic, and hilarious. Really, really incredible. I didn't have any expectations and was very pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this movie. I don't see a lot of foreign language films, but if they're all this good, that may have to change.

xGary X (de) wrote: A group of gangsters kidnap a girl and meet a pair of escaped convicts in the woods awaiting their boss for instructions. Little do they know that he's an unkillable demon who can re-animate the corpses of their dead victims...Well if that synopsis sounds ridiculous, it gets sillier than that! This is the kind of film where if it were done straight-faced, it probably would've been a disaster. Fortunately it has just the right amount of tongue in cheek humour to make it great fun. It has the same kind of mix of gore and laughs that the likes of A Chinese Ghost Story contains, and as a result comes across as a kind of Asian martial arts version of Evil Dead 2 or Peter Jackson's Bad Taste. Like those films, the budget was obviously tight, so you can spot some wires and there are a couple of ropey effects, but it's all part of the fun. Laugh at it or with it, it's an a musing bag of manga style lunacy and frenetic action that's basically just an excuse for constant fist fights, gun battles and samurai swords splattered with a liberal dose of gore. Unpretentious crowd pleasing nonsense.

Sean S (ca) wrote: Actually some very nice directing and bollocks plot. Worth a look though fans of anime.

Matthew S (br) wrote: It was nothing special. I won't say it was awful and uninteresting, but I've certainly seen better movies out there. Stephen Baldwin had an unimpressive role in this film and Fishburne wasn't up to his usual standard either. The movie had quite a bit of potential but too many loose ends remained at the end of the film thanks to the high number of plot twists.

Natalie M (de) wrote: Great movie. Strong women.

Maddie M (nl) wrote: pretty cheesy yet humorous and quite entertaining. very unique, too!

Martin T (us) wrote: My first impulse was to call this "Sirkian" but I worry that I might fall into a trap of labelling ANY melodrama "Sirkian". Sometimes a soap opera is just a soap opera. And this is pretty soapy... it certainly didn't have any of the transcendent quality of Sirk. Predictable suburban infidelity romance, nothing at all noteworthy about it (except that it's rather steamy for 1960). I didn't hate anything about it, but it didn't do much for me.

Kevin S (de) wrote: Totally recommended! very diverse film with plottwists and no real drop in the action

Brad S (jp) wrote: I hadn't seen this since I first saw it in theatres...and fell pretty much the same about it, though it's quite good, there's something lacking that keeps it from being great. First, the good, Hopkins and Hounsou are both outstanding, and there's some very powerful images, from a technical standpoint, Spielberg is a master. For me, some of theissues are that McConaughey was miscast, he's too modern seeming, and was never believable, also there some really cheesy or forced music segments where the score is trying to tell the audience how to feel, when it really isn't needed. Despite its flaws, it still worth watching, also interesting as Oscar competitors from 2013 Ejiofor and McConaughey share several scenes. Check it out.

KJ P (it) wrote: "Another Earth" boasts from very strong performances all around, and I am usually a fan of indie films that have a small scope with big aspirations, but this one felt a little too ambitious. As a young woman is about to get a full-ride scholarship, her life is flipped upside down as she is sent to prison for killing a man's wife and daughter in a car crash. Years later she falls for that man, creating very sensitive storytelling. By big issue with this film is that there is this entire other planet that is supposedly a duplicate of ours, while never focussing enough on that aspect in my opinion. By the end of the film, the big shocker did not surprise me at all and I felt a little empty handed. I do think this film is very well-written, well-acted, and extremely well-directed, but the technical aspects fail in a few areas. In the end, "Another Earth" is almost too ambitious for it's own good, but I really enjoyed it. It is recommended to people who like to think outside of the box instead of being outside of the box.

James H (gb) wrote: 44/100. On the plus side, it doesn't take itself seriously. The acting is fair. It's main flaw is a complete lack of originality and contains so many cliches. It is sporadically entertaining, but not often enough to make it good. It's just too predictable.

Ethan P (ru) wrote: The One I Love is a modern romance with a fantastic idea and mesmerizing performances from its two leads, as alternate versions of themselves. The end might be confusing and the idea is never fully realized, but the details and interplay between the characters is worth watching this film again.

Robby B (br) wrote: This dramatic film presents modern day war, encumbered by bloated bureaucracy, politics and international diplomacy. The excitement of the battlefield is replaced with hi-def satellite tech and remote missile launching from halfway around the world. ... and then there's the beautiful, vibrant little girl who brings tension, emotion and conflict to what should have been a by-the-book surgical strike. Superb cast includes Helen Mirran and the late Alan Rickman.
