SV G (nl) wrote: Honeydripper was adapted for the screen by John Sayles from one of his own short stories. It's about a small lounge in Alabama just after the war (and just before the civil rights movement) owned by a man about to lose his business and desperate to hang onto it. It's about changes and taking initiative and redemption. As often happens when "short" stories are brought to screen there just was not enough story to fill a full feature film & as a result moves along a little too slowly to fill the time; however the performances by Danny Glover and Charles Dutton in particular are well worth the watch & if a fan of Keb Mo you'll enjoy him in the small but interesting part of a blind blues singer "Possum".

Wade H (au) wrote: DePalma's directing is still vividly brushed as ever and Cage seems conceived into his character. But the story starts bad and ends lower then that. Implausible twists revealed too early and unconvincing back stories.

Dave W (kr) wrote: This is one of those movies that I really wanted to be good when I was a kid, and my parents wouldn't let me see it, and I thought they wouldn't let me see it because it was going to be so twisted and fucked up that it would just fuck me up and turn me in to a fucking serial killer or something, then I fucking saw it and it was so painful to watch in all the wrong ways, and every now and then I see it for free on a streaming account and I think, "hey I wonder if this is as bad as I remember it," and it is, it fucking is, it is that fucking bad and yet I still try to watch it again, and it never fucking ends, just like this sentence. I only give it a half a star because the idea of an electric chair themed horror movie is great. Let's face it, who wants to die in the electric chair? Not me. That shit is scary. This movie on the other hand, is just bad.

Nathan D (ag) wrote: Gender bending - girls kissing girls, boys wondering why they are attracted to boy and drag. 1935? 77 years later and films like these are a rarity. Its amazing to think how "modern and progressive" this concept was and equally amazing to think how conservative some of us are today.

Ashok B (gb) wrote: A film that grew on me the more I watched it. The lack of story and depth in the characters does leave the story lacking. Action is good enough to watch and Danny John-Jules will always be a legend.

Omar M (us) wrote: The first two rooms are disastrous segments. Terrible acting, dialogue and smugness plague them. Then, Rodriguez's segment is actually quite good. It's funny and inventive without trying too hard. And finally, the almost-always great Tarantino's segment is actually just OK. Definitely the weakest writing he's ever put on film but it's still fun and with him acting, it's a rare treat. So, the two stars are for Rodriguez and Tarantino who made the second-half of the film enjoyable.

Jamie C (gb) wrote: Pretty funny film, But I think I laughed at Seth Rogan's scenes more than anything.
