penny A (kr) wrote: Not only is this a love story about a middle aged, divorced landlady, and her divorcing, crossdressing power-banker tenant. It's also a comedy about how to hide your alter ego from the world, as you thwart the plans of your evil boss For the Trekers there's even a cameo appearance by one of the interred heroes of Next Generation.

The only one who seems to feel inspired by this stupid myth/conspiracy story is Peter Suschitzky whose cinematography is brilliant as usual. Kudos for that! Everything else here goes from mediocre (Nicloux's direction is surprisingly dull) to plain bad (Monica Bellucci's worst performance ever). Definitely not recommended!

I don't like the desert part as much and I lose interest after a while. As a total the film is not that much worse than the other ones. It's alright and the ending is lifting it a bit again. I think that Tina Turner succeed but the part could have been done by a dozen other ladies. The music and the mood almost make it a family film at times, I do not like that. It's more Hollywoodish than the other early films, but the forth film is probably even topping that. I will find out soon enough.5.5 out of 10 piggies.

But the story is so heavy with a dark drama element that you will remember for a long time. The only problem I have with the film is the interaction between the characters as they look at the cameras. It is kind of weird to me. But beyond that, every performance is fantastic. I love how Ozu made a family oriented drama traditionally in a Japanese way. Definitely a must watch. Lesson learned, treat your mother, father, brother and sisters as long as you still live with them and see them happily alive. 4 out of 5 stars.
