Gina W (au) wrote: This movie was just too "talkie."

Henrik S (it) wrote: Tranquility and isolation paired up with tenderness and the fascination of glimpsing into the lives of others make this my favourite arthouse movie ever. The story of a retired mineworker discovering the magic of American Blues which sends him on a personal, as well as actual journey into the heartland of America. Amazing and mezmerizing, this movie is most definetly not for everyone, as it is a far cry from Hollywood cinema, being far too subtle, slow and simple. Don't be fooled though, behind it's lighthearted touch breeds a heavy philosophy of self-discovery and love for all things beautiful and human.

Jeff B (us) wrote: Very good Palme D'Or winner from Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos about a dying poet who reflects on his life while at the same time befriending a young Albanian orphan. There are some beautiful moments in this film, including a very haunting moment at the Albanian border, and the final shot is very impressive. As far as the story goes, it's sort of a Greek Wild Strawberries about a man looking back at his life and preparing for death. It's cool the way the film incorporates past, present, and sometimes the future (and sometimes all in one shot). I'm glad I finally saw this one.

Sean M (gb) wrote: A guilty pleasure. It's racist, it's corny, it's stupid, and it never fails to put a grin on my face. Maybe that's because I'm a sucker for the soundtrack (which is surprisingly good for a kids' movie). Maybe it's because Fess Parker and Buddy Ebsen are such unapologetic hillbillies. Maybe it's because I grew up watching this film. Either way, give this ole bar a chance.

Brad G (fr) wrote: Remember how cool Top Gun was when you were a kid? Tom Cruises?? Maverick was a cocky, punk pilot but you loved him anyway cuz he could shoot down an evil Commie Mig like nobody??s business. Well, Firebirds is no Top Gun even if it desperately wants to be. Nicolas Cage??s Apache pilot is just as cocky as Maverick, but he sure as heck ain??t likable. ??I am the greatest! I am the greatest!?? Yeah, you keep shoutin?? that Cage but all I want to see is Tommy Lee Jones punch you in the face. And Sean Young? You are no Kelly McGillis. I don??t care if you can fire a rocket launcher or not??you are unappealing. Still, Tommy Lee??s line about being ??busier than a three puckered goat?? is kinda funny. VF.
