James C (jp) wrote: Funny in places, but over-shadowed by most of the rest of De Palma's movies (unsurprisingly). Too much of a mix of the very serious and the not so.

Kimbo J (us) wrote: The story of a petty man out for "justified" violent revenge for something he stupidly instigated in the first place. Terrible movie.

Chris B (au) wrote: As the legendary Samuel Fuller's debut film, "I Shot Jesse James" is a western with Fuller's trademark close-up shots and psychological aspects as well as the use of newspaper pages displaying various events. The film is filled with complete characters, especially John Ireland as Bob Ford who practically steals the film! While It's no secretary who and how Jesse James was killed, the film focuses on the aftermath and ensuing destruction of Bob Ford. There are many different linked characters and subplots but this is about one man's destiny after he betrays his best friend and partner for his own ambitions. I loved the pacing of the film and Fuller's touch, while not on full display, are already seeping in and what eventually garnered the critical acclaim he later would receive. If you're a fan of Fuller, westerns, or even dramas this is a great work done by the gifted Samuel Fuller when he first set out directing and shouldn't be missed!

Danny R (ca) wrote: W. S. Anderson's hyper-violent, thrilling action fantasy, about the near future where prisons are run like corporations that must make a profit. Jensen Ames, played superbly by Jason Statham, is a steel worker who was framed with his beloved wife's murder, he is being forced by a sadistic, manipulative female warden named Hennessy, played terrifically by Joan Allen, to race in her prison's notorious 'Death Race,' as a popular mask-wearing, but now dead champion named Frankenstein. This race to the death is broadcast live on the internet, and watched by millions of Americans, and makes big profits the prison. The object of this gladiatorial race is for inmates to brutalize and kill one another with their armored plated, souped-up muscle cars, which have been weaponized with machine guns. Well directed by Anderson, with some truly explosive, adrenaline-pumping action sequences. A gore-soaked kill-fest, that is a hell of a lot of fun. Highly Recommended.

Paul D (jp) wrote: I do understand why this one is rated low on RT. I get why critics wouldn't dig it. But man did I love the Machete sequel. It's bombastic, it's over-the-top, it's supremely silly, and best of all there's just nothing else like Machete Kills going on today in modern cinema. Yes, it's a throwback, but if you can embrace the spectacle and just enjoy the madness of Machete Kills, then I think you're in for a real treat. If you can't do those things, well then maybe Machete Kills just isn't for you. For me though, I hope they make 10 more Machete movies.
