Valley of the Kings

Hard-boiled archeologist Mark Brandon is searching for ancient tombs in Egypt when he is approached by beautiful Ann Mercedes, who convinces him to help her fulfill her deceased father's life's ambition - to provide solid proof of the biblical Joseph's travels in ancient Egypt. As an ex-pupil of Ann's father Mark accepts and the two embark on a search for the tomb of the Pharoah Ra Hotep, said to have had some connection with Joseph. The trail to the tomb is fraught with intrigue, betrayal, murder and the possibility that the tomb itself has been emptied of all its artifacts by ancient looters.

Jason C (gb) wrote: Turturro perhaps deserved an Oscar for his casting here - not only procuring Woody Allen for a co-starring slot but also lining up Sharon Stone and Sofia Vergara for a menage a trois and completing the main characters with Vanessa Paradis and Liev Schrieber. Turturro also writes and directs and there are plenty of echoes of Allen's later work - gentle yet deep contemplations on the nature of love and lust in the heart of a quite preposterous plot. Enjoyable, and featuring a great jazz soundtrack.

The asymmetric and kinetic character designs are fantastic, and all in all it is these visuals that steal the show. Depp and Nighy turn in good vocal performances, which adds up to this being the animation I'd rather be seeing over the Dreamworks and Pixar visuals, which have long since become a bit stale.Another jewel in the crown of ILM!

Silverstone is just wonderful in this delightfully humorous, refreshingly original look at 16 year old girl who helps a new student with her popularity "status" and tries to establish her own self-interest (and relationship) with boys. Well acted, very clever and very funny script by director Heckerling, with laugh-out-loud, deliciously over-the-top vernacular, and a certain sweetness that's rare in teen movies. In fact, this may very well be the best movie ever made about high school life (perhaps rivaled only by SAY ANYTHING . . . ) Best of all: No sex, crude dialogue, or characters being mean for the sake of being mean. And again, Silverstone couldn't be more perfect. As if!

Lariste K (jp) wrote: Purely photogenic action picture with guys in blazingly obvious Martial Arts retail Ninja outfits fighting endlessly with athletic, sexy Michael Dudikoff. The film suffers frequently from poor editing which shows the seams on the films multitude of stunt scenes, something that could have been fixed in later decades with close editing and retiming of clips. Audio sounds like bad late 80's advertising muzak and the principle cast cannot act. Good movie though! A lot of effort, training and rehearsal went into this film.
