Sanity Assassin (de) wrote: clearly just literally a vehicle for tom hardy. never thought i'd see a film set wholly in a car seat. i figured the most minimalist movies would ever get would be reservoir dogs being pretty much set in a room. the atmosphere of the filming and isolationism as well as the only actors performance werent dull or boring at any point but it still remains just a monologue. to achieve the same effect i could've read a short book. could've done with another half hour runtime on the end.

Pongpunya K (ca) wrote: For a gay movie about a gay activist and a soap opera actor who fall in love, this is actually a pretty good movie. The acting is pretty good for what it is and the storyline actually dives a little deeper into current issues.

Matlock Z (de) wrote: It has its ups and downs, but Girls Will Be Girls contains some of the most acidic, gross and hilarious dialog ever delivered by men pretending to be women.

Jake A (jp) wrote: Clint Eastwood is great as an actor and director. This film has a great build up of tension, looks fantastic with California as its backdrop, Walters is great as the manical lover and even the music is great for what it is. This may of been a debut for Eastwood as a director but it shows signs of much better to come.

J K (ru) wrote: I severely disliked the Laurel and Hardy films just because I hated that fat guy beating the skinny guy to death. It worked for the Three Stooges well because they pulled it off better. All Olly came across was as a bully.

Stephen E (ag) wrote: 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' is regarded as one of the finest horror films of all time, which is something that I can't seem to get my head around. Not only is it not a horror film, but there's nothing in it that's remotely horrific at all. Sure, there are moments where the score dips down into a haunting melody that makes you think that something creepy might happen, but nothing ever does. The same goes for those mildly eerie scenes at Hanging Rock. There's little buildup and no payoff, which really makes me question why 'Picnic' is reputed as being a horror film. If anything, it's a slow-burning period drama that's centered on the theme of repressed sexual hysteria. Director Peter Weir, cinematographer Russell Boyd and costume designer Judith Dorsman work together to make 'Picnic' look and feel incredibly authentic. The images onscreen are beautiful and almost like visual poetry. (Think 'Days of Heaven.') But in the end, what are we left with? The central mystery of the film (and its main drawing point) isn't solved or elaborated upon. This would be fine if the rest of the film worked on its own and just used the disappearance of the girls only as a way to get the plot going, but it doesn't. Everything keeps referring back to what happened at Hanging Rock, which we don't know. So, basically, what we get is an opening half hour where the set-up happens and then a good hour and ten minutes of people not knowing what the hell is going on. And then it just kind of ends. And that's 'Picnic at Hanging Rock.'
