Even in the most revealing moments, I found myself shaking my head along and saying, 'of course.' That said, he's still a compelling individual, and hearing him talk about his films is always a treat. Watching this only confirms how much his films are an extension of him.

Lisa K (ca) wrote: Since I adore Downton Abbey, I thought I would try this movie written by Julian Fellows. There are enormous similarities between this movie and Downton Abbey. There is an enormous cast of servants downstairs and the wealthy family and guests upstairs. The film goes to great lengths to portray the period of 1930's England. The costumes and settings seem perfect. However, I think you can skip this film and go straight to Downton Abbey. The character development and plot are extremely weak and often lean no where. There is a murder to which no one including the audience cares that he died or who did it. It is a very unsatisfactory feeling when the movie is finished, there are just too many loose ends.

Private U (fr) wrote: What a shame. The book is wonderful, and the cast looks great on paper, but this is where it all falls through. The actors do their best to battle on through a badly written script, but the adaption to screen just hasn't been done well enough - the acting comes across as painfully wooden.
