The film's plot unfolds in Alappuzha, a town in Kerala popularly known as the Venice of the East. The story revolves around Pavithran (Mammootty), who lost his parents in his childhood. He enters the police force by chance, though it is not his ambition to do so. Pavithran lands up in Alappuzha (Alappuzha incidentally is attributed to the sobriquet, Venice of the East) disguised as a merchant to investigate the murder of a union leader named Ajayan (Biju Menon). Donald L (us) wrote: It went to the basics. Simple summer movie plot with some fun tie ins to real history. Toned down on the lame over the top humor. Then just filled the rest with eye popping mindless thrilling action. At some point I felt like I was watching the first movie for the first time again. Best of all, no Megan Fox and steady camera angles during the actions scenes. Nearly perfect for my expectations for a Michael bay Transformers movie. In the end though all I wanted to see is robots beating the living shit out of each other and that's exactly what I got.

Gavin P (ru) wrote: A truly moving film about how East Timor was invaded and occupied for over 20 years and the deaths of six Australian journalists trying to get the world to notice, in vain. Excellently shot - including the flashbacks as LaPaglia's retracing the others' footsteps - good score and a great cast and to the sincerity of the movie. I'm glad I watched this & now know a little more about our troubled neighbours.

Ryan W (us) wrote: Cool special effects and action sequences but the performances are wooden and the dialogue is trash.

Robert H (kr) wrote: Having a feel similar to Akira, Spriggan is one of my fave animes of the 90s. Combining religion, action, scifi and standard anime craziness, Spriggan delivers a fun watch. The film does allow for plenty of mild theological discussion but doesn't get too complex and allows itself to be understood while many of the most popular anime, simply don't make much sense once they start trying to "think" too hard. The animation is fantastic and I really enjoyed the score. This is classic 90s anime but it's often overshadowed by films like Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll.

Grant T (us) wrote: It was entertaining enough, but Robin Williams seemed to be rambling randomly (sometimes very unfunny) on the air, which got old as the film progressed. The film had some good direction showing the problems with the war. I was expecting this to be better, but while it lasted it was fun enough

Robert H (au) wrote: Far from being on of the best John Wayne films but you can still do worse. I tended to laugh more than I probably should have and the accent of Jorge Rivero was quite annoying at first but the film was entertaining to a degree. Hawks didn't seem to have his heart in this, his swan song, and it showed. There was some lazy acting, some bad costuming and some poor production value. Add those to the fact that your main man, the Duke, and his main character, seemed to take a back seat during many of the scenes he was in and this film just didn't deliver like it should have.As a piece of western film history, this is somewhat important. As a piece of entertainment... it only manages to get half way there.

Daniel J (au) wrote: Don't except anything more than something to laugh at with friends. The murder scenes are pretty hilarious, but that's about it.

Frances H (ru) wrote: Not as good as the Chronicles of Narnia movies, but still so visually stunning and well made, well acted by a good cast that it is definitely worth a watch.

Trent G (us) wrote: Decently funny. Williams was good, and who'd of thought Ted Levigne would be funny?
