(au) wrote: This "movie" sucks! Don't watch it. It's not scary, awful special effects, terrible acting and sound. I saw it with some friends and we all were laughing all the time, we tought we were watching Scary Movie 5.
(au) wrote: Extremely LOW budget movie! Mainly talking heads.
(jp) wrote: This is the most accurate approximation of H.P. Lovecraft I have seen (although it's actually an adaptation of Shadow Over Innsmouth). The only real failing of the film, and it's significant, is that the lead character, Paul Marsh, seems ripped out of a different reality: a horror movie spoof or a Scoooby-doo episode. He's clownish. Still, the rest of the movie pops with scares, lore, and one of the goriest scenes I've ever seen. Worthy of Argento himself. Definite popcorn horror movie.

(au) wrote: If not for the last 10 minutes of this movie, I'd not really like it but I have to admit it's pretty hysterical. Julianne Moore looks so young and timeless!
(kr) wrote: Amiable but generic for an hour and a half, then absolutely magical for the final ten minutes. Of note: Dick Powell sports one of the most misguided mustaches in all of cinema in this movie.

(it) wrote: Low budget, but wouldn't know it. A movie lover's movie for people who love great acting, and a great story.
(jp) wrote: A nearly note-perfect character study about a middle-aged, alcoholic country singer (Jeff Bridges) trying to eke out a living playing his old hits in small-town bowling alleys and bars. He meets a nice woman; he fights with his manager about the gigs and about being the opening act for a rising star singer who used to be a member of his band, when he had a band. Those are essentially the only plot points -- the story is simple and straightforward. The real appeal in this film is Bridges's performance. He totally inhabits this character. He's a decent guy with some serious talent and some serious flaws. We see him recognize a good thing in the woman he meets, but he isn't ready yet to straighten up. He's neither hero nor villain; he's just struggling, like all of us.
