Michael K (mx) wrote: Bleak and depressing appear to be the words used to describe Seidl??s stylish take on the European social drama. At times what happens on screen is in complete contrast to the artistic framing Seidl chooses to use. It reminded me very much of You, The Living which has a similar approach albeit with deadpan humour which might be inappropriate at times here. Import/Export doesn??t trivialise the subject matter by painting a more visually appealing film, although there are scenes that combine absurdity with horror which makes for uncomfortable viewing. Overall it captures the lifestyles and environments of the film gifting you the experience of their unpleasantness whilst packaging it in a consumer friendly manner not unlike watching what happens to these humans when they are treated as similar commodities

However, the bad guys make this movie with some decent surf and martial arts moves. Barry Brenner is a stand out as Adolph. A movie that never reaches its true potential and begs for a remake. A movie that makes you believe you could make a movie yourself.

Way before Zemeckis did his Romancing the Stone, Philippe de Broca made this terrific adventure movie. Ok you don't get the usual sexual tension between our french couple, but we're in the sixties and things were a bit different. In any case, this is what entertainment was all about in the sixties. That must have been a hell of a decade :-)

Not only is the sequence beautifully composed, I couldn't find a trace of the now well known Billy Bob Thorton anywhere in his performance 5 minutes into Sling Blade there's a scene that draws me in; The main character sits cloaked in shadows and slowly describes in detail how he murdered two people.
