David L (au) wrote: quite an extraordinary film about woman's lib, atheism, and speaking your voice in the face of stultifying conventionalism. Great performance from Lerman and esp. Sarah Gadon. Most memorable quote (as is applicable to the election two days ago... from Benjamin Franklin "A democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch."

Chris Z (ru) wrote: Nicely filmed, and a well-done documentary. The narration was very strange though, it got kind of irritating. I thought Still Life was better, and even though that film wasn't a documentary, it felt more substantive somehow. This film reminded me a lot of Cannibal Tours in terms of its portrayal of foreign tourists. Cannibal Tours is required viewing.

It was quirky and funny but the thing that really bothered me was the guy the two sisters were fighting over was hideously ugly! It would have been a bit more believable if he'd been a little bit more attractive. I didn't get that whole thing about the symbolism between the carpe and his sexual behavior. ??? I"m not sure I would necessarily recommend this movie to anyone but I'm not sorry I watched it.
Mel C (au) wrote: What a fansastic film dedicated to the tough cold water surfers of the U.K. Loosly based in surfing you get to see Catherine Zeta in undies, ugg boots preparing triffle ingredients to celebrate with. If thats not enough the quirky sense of humour of the smuggler FM chaps bumbling their way through home bread commentry. A vague love story and a chance to show that the best laid plans can always change. Cornwall looks lovely in the shoots and some nice and not so nice waves and breaks are captured as well as the winter humour of breaking the ice to get to the waves - Oh well do I remembr submitting to the wet 8mm wet suit, gloves, boots and hood just to get the perfect wave on x-mas day.
