Chris B (kr) wrote: Such a simple and beautiful movie. Bruce Dern and Will Forte really bring these unique character's to life. Bob Odenkirk is really good as well. It's a funny and heart warming character drama. Alexander Payne does a great job with the script. The cinematography and score are both great. My only complaint is it is a little slow, but you should definitely give it a watch.

What's great about this movie is that it shows us a completely other way of thinking. This is Japan in all its splendor! If you liked this movie, you should also watch Tampopo, by Juzo Itami.

Ben D (it) wrote: In a way it's cold but strong, tone makes it in some way better than the the - maybe even overly romantic though beautiful and impressiove 1992 adaptation. And this version is visually beautiful as weel, plus sexy. But especially I liked the way the actor of Dracula portrayed him. The tense, arrogant, cunning and self-assurent being was really impressive. Especially when combined to the beautiful shaded eyes and that adorable wake of a smile we see in some scenes.

Samuel H (ag) wrote: Clint Eastwood shows his prowess both as a director and actor in Gran Torino. Eastwood explores the power of living with grace in both life and death and the richness of living a life with character. As Roger Ebert wrote "everyone wants to be Clint Eastwood". This is true for the actor, director, man, (and even singer in this one). Gran Torino is an emotional and powerful (near) bookend to one of Hollywoods greatest careers.

Jackson M (es) wrote: Schindler's List, directed by Steven Spielberg, was released in 1993 and claimed 7 Oscars awards won for the film. The true story plot revolves around Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), a German businessman in 1939 in the city of Krakow, Poland. The film starts off with Schindler employing a Jewish accountant, Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley), establishing Jewish business ties, and having Stern work as his right-hand man. Schindler starts off with a mindset of profit, contrary to his ending mindset. Jews in Krakow cannot own businesses, so Schindler decides to attract Jewish investors, and paying them back in his products, rather than currency in order to maximize his profit. After obtaining these investors (they give in to investing finally, realizing that currency is useless in the Krakow Ghetto), he hires Jews from the ghetto, rather than non-Jewish Poles, as they are cheaper to employ. This is where the accountant, Stern, comes into his role. Since these Jews hired from the ghetto are deemed essential by the local Nazi government, they are saved from almost certain death from the ghetto and the in-construction concentration camp. Stern realizes this, and hires more and more Jews in order to save as many lives as possible. Schindler is not onboard with this idea at first, but eventually he switches from profiteering to trying to actively save as many Jewish lives as possible, risking and sacrificing his own wealth in order to do so. At the high-point of the plot, the SS officer in charge of the local camp is ordered to kill and burn all Jewish inhabitants of Krakow in an 'evacuation'. Schindler then gives up almost all of his wealth and personal belongings in order to bribe the SS officer to let the Jews work for him in Czechoslovakia, sparing their lives. Schindler's List incorporates the use of black & white film in the modern era wonderfully, which is rarely seen. The plot often touches upon morals, and the "Why does God let this happen" idea is shown, commonly discussed within theologians and philosophers of all religions and lackthereofs.

Simon T (us) wrote: Bio-musical of the pretty ghastly George Cohan, composer of some of the most banal and jingoistic songs ever to disgrace Broadway. James Cagney invests his trademark cartoon energy into every scene, and Michael Curtiz keeps most of the clichs at bay, but it's still jarring to see blackface getting big laughs, and war celebrated with so little irony or self-reflection.

Baurushan J (mx) wrote: The legendary director of Piranha, Gremlins and one of my favourites, Explorers; director Joe Dante directs this action movie for the elderly kids who are obviously into dolls titled Small Soldiers. The story is about CEO Gil Mars played by Denis Leary who gives the green light opportunity to Larry played by Jay Mohr and Irwin played by David Cross to create a new line of action figures by making them more realistic so that whenever toy owners play with them, the toys can play with the owners back in retaliation. Back in Ohio, toy store owner Stuart played by Kevin Dunn and his son Alan played by Gregory Smith are failing in their business so when truckdriver Joe played by Dick Miller delivers the toys from the company Heartland Play System, Alan is convinced, they will make a little money until the toys break free including the Commandos led by Chip Hazard voiced by Tommy Lee Jones and the Gorgonites led by Archer voiced by Frank Langella. Archer soon begins to communicate with Alan as the Commandos then escape and hatch a plan to take over the world. A lot of people found this movie to be uninteresting and boring but thanks to a huge cast and the legendary work of the late Stan Winston who combined all animatronics, puppetry and computer animation in one, this movie is made enjoyable and overall, a good action film for kids. Small Soldiers gets a 8/10.
