(gb) wrote: This is a film of a novel for children first published in the 1960s. The plot, a boy escaping from a labour camp and journeying alone across Europe in the early 50s, is a little hard to believe, but I enjoyed the film and thought it was well acted and filmed. I especially enjoyed the music.
(jp) wrote: Sandra Bullock stars in the comedy While You Were Sleeping. Bullock is Lucy, a man who has a crush on Peter (Peter Gallagher). She fantasizes about him and looks for a chance just to meet him. On Christmas day, she gets her chance when he gets assaulted on knocked onto the train tracks. She saves him, but he goes into a coma. Due to a misunderstanding, Lucy is believed to be her fianc. The family falls for Lucy and they welcome him into their family, and she feels obligated to keep up with the charade. Because she does not have any existing family of her own, she feels at home for the first time in a long time. In the process of it all however, she stars falling for Peter's brother Jack (Bill Pullman). The entire thing practically writes itself when Peter wakes up and doesn't know Lucy, he clearly must have amnesia. While You Were Sleeping is an original comedy with a decent premise. Bullock does a good job as the cute lead that is caring and not trying to be malicious and wants it all to work out. The added arc of Bullock and Pullman starting to fall for each other was an interesting twist to the story. There are a bit too many misinterpretations that aren't as funny as the movie thinks, but they all keep the movie going. When Peter wakes up they did more things with the movie than I expected including him considering himself a new man. This movie is by no means incredible, but its original and has a good enough cast and premise to keep the itself afloat and is better than many other films like it. -2.19.2017

(kr) wrote: Saw this movie today after so long and I have to say that this comic book movie was made ahead of it's time. It more feels like a modern day comic book movie than a early 2000's movie. The tone and atmosphere is like a DCU movie, but better. The comedic one liners and witty humor is like an MCU movie. It even has a portal to space/another dimension and steam punk. The cg is really good for an early 2000's film. The practical effects are amazing. The writing is good, the acting is good. The story keeps you invested in the film despite it's tonal changes. Honestly the only nitpicks I have with this movie is that it has a few plot holes. If they ever make an Amalgam movie, they should let Guillermo Del Toro write and direct it.
(kr) wrote: This was a pretty silly and predicable movie. Nevertheless, I was able to sit through the whole thing. Wasn't scary at all and the acting wasn't that good.
(it) wrote: Such an underrated film. This is a great twist on the characters, and the two leads are superb. The film itself doesn't go anywhere you don't expect, but there are plenty of chuckles along the way. Worth a watch.
