james r (kr) wrote: For those of you who don't know of the comic book character, Detective Jim Corrigan (voiced by Gary Cole), by night, acts as The Spectre, the spirit of vengeance who kills those that deserved it. The Spectre is pretty much The Punisher, except instead of a black t-shirt with a skull, his costume is a green hooded cloak, and instead of using guns and other weapons to kill those he's wreaking vengenace upon, he uses his supernatural powers to posses objects, which are then creatively used to kill his victims. There is another difference between Punisher and Spectre, The Spectre literally is a spirit. This DC short is styled like a noir film, complete with imperfections in the picture and a 1940s Hollywood setting. I have to say, the plot is very well done for this film, not being afraid to pull punches all throughout and having some terrific spine-tingling and suspensful moments, even if the murder-mystery feels a bit basic. If they stretched it out by 70 minutes, added more scenes and characters, then they would have a brilliant animated film. This short is the perfect way to showcase a second-tier character like The Spectre onscreen, serving the character much better than any big budget live action film could. Watching this 11 minute short makes me want to know more about this character.

Christopher S (ru) wrote: Well-written and well-acted. Jon Favreau does a spectacular job of writing and directing this film, but, honestly, Vince Vaughn steals the show with his hilarious acting. The balance between Jon Favreau's character and Vince Vaughn is what makes the entire film worth watching. "Made" is a genuinely comical and entertaining film with a superb cast, From Peter Falk to Vincent Pastore to Famke Janssen, to the small cameos from Jennifer Esposito, and Sam Rockwell.

Tara A (ru) wrote: haha, how did Justine Bateman ever get cast as a singer?! Silly, but fun. And what a time capsule of 1988.

Bill B (us) wrote: I honestly still dunno what I watched here, as this was put together in so piss-poor of a manner that it felt as if characters walked five feet and went from the jungle to the inner city in the blink of an eye. The costuming is terrible and the action bits are laughable at best. I know some folks who have a fondness for Godrey Ho films, but this certainly didn't start me off wanting to like the man's work, and I don't usually mind the 'so-bad-it's-good' fare.Rental?

Stella D (ag) wrote: oft told tale but sharp as a razor here with sterling hayden, an actor of more presence than skill, giving maybe his best performance. rumor has it the film was made in two weeks and it's remarkably done, from the opening heist to the tune of doris day's 's'wonderful' to the last crumpled cigarette

Austin M (de) wrote: Great movie: it showed the war in the most realistic way except real film of the war, music is also good

JT K (de) wrote: A cast filled to the rafters with fantastic actors...all in service of a terrible script. It tries way way way too hard to be profound and winds up being maudlin, stiffling some good laughs and generating next to no genuine emotion. Even the score beats you over the head. An infuriating waste of talent.

Panos Y (kr) wrote: 7/10 This is a nice sci-fi fairy tale. It is engaging and suspenseful. Forget the science when you are watching it and you'll enjoy it enough.

Aseel H (it) wrote: I am hoping it is still in the theater.
