ken k (ca) wrote: Actually I liked it more than the Hangover movies! Certainly not as bad as some of the ratings. Maybe it's me but I liked the characters. Pretty entertaining.

Mike K (ru) wrote: A royal flush of incredible character actors did what they do best: acted their asses off. The plot is solid and serious enough to more or less support them through most of the film's playing time - almost to the ending. Brilliant acting from menacing/maniacal to toupee topped comedic easily carried the film through most every stumble noted by critics here as far as my viewing pleasure was concerned.

Purva P (de) wrote: One of the *most* awesome movies ive ever seen. wish it could have lasted longer, or we have more such movies.Love dit. completely. Nuff said.

joseph h (fr) wrote: Despite touching upon important issues, it feels like the truth has been sugar coated and at times reduced to cliches. Thankfully the cast somewhat overcomes this even if their characters stories feel overly stylized and underdeveloped.

Cam M (gb) wrote: Stupid. This is actually a second prequel as 90% takes place before the first film and the first prequel was completely unneccesary anyhow.

Chelsea J (kr) wrote: I gave this movie a chance because of Vicent Kartheiser and I wasn't disappointed. This movie is amazing. It shows hope and love in the center of deepest depression. Only love can get you through the roughest times and this movie definitely showed that beautifully. The acting was real and the scenery and music beautiful.

Micheline S (it) wrote: this movie was confusing, boring and not worth the effort of trying to understand what the hell is going on. And scary? not even close. DO NOT RENT THIS CRAP!

Brendan R (es) wrote: A selfish woman on a rich person's journey of indulgence. I felt nothing for her.

Brandon S (br) wrote: As a great admirer of Kubrick's work, "Eyes Wide Shut" had me at a bit of a quandary. On the one hand, I'd like to simply classify it as a movie about the temptation of sex, and thereby dismiss it. On the other hand it's also a movie about love. But not in the traditional sense. We're never really given the impression that Cruise and Kidman's characters actually love each other, all we sense is anger and resentment with any feelings of love coming out of feelings of obligation. I think this movie begs the question: is love something of the heart or the subconscious? It also has a lot to say about dreams, given that much of the film feels like a dream, at times even a nightmare. Kubrick paints a picture of our lead characters that is relatable, but also beyond reason. Which further drives home the point that it could all be a dream. The whole film is lit with this fantastical, hazy lighting which is all very theatrical and over-the-top, commonplace in a Kubrick film. But the only time that we have simple lighting is the moments when he's in his bedroom with his wife. One particular scene when she wakes up from an erotic nightmare.Thematic material aside, this is great filmmaking. Kubrick is one of the most skilled artists to ever grace the silver screen, and this is a fitting swan song for him. It has beautiful, lush visuals, layered performances, beautiful cinematography, a score that will stick to your ribs, and a plot that explores love and sexuality unlike any other.Overall, much like recent films like Lars Von Trier's "Nymphomaniac" or Derek Cianfrance's "Blue Valentine," if you watch this movie simply for the sex than you've completely missed the point. This isn't simply elegant pornography, it's a work of art that is puzzling and tough.
